Get Gears 1 on PC rather than Xbox. Came with bonus chapters that apparently explain just what the hell is going on.

So a while back my nephew got an Xbox 360 and not surprisingly, I affirmed my suspicion that I would much rather have a PS 3, and the only reason for that would be Gears Of War 2, 3, etc. and Gran Turismo 5, but even those whatever, I still prefer my PC over anything else.
Anyway, with his Xbox there was a demo for Need For Speed Shift, so I stole a moment to check it out. Not the best racing game by a long shot, but not at all bad, and I made a mental note to add it to my Steam wishlist in case of a killer sale price, and there it's sat.
Now today, I'm taking a peek at Amazon and their mayhem 12 days event (some really good prices there if you haven't checked it out) and I see Shift and Shift 2 for 4.99 each. I'm trying to decide on both, neither, or just Shift 2, and while doing that I watch the video for Shift.
First thing voiceover guy says is "The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterrey, California is one of the most technical tracks in the world ". Annnd DONE, I'll pass simply because you don't know what you're talking about, which I don't automatically hold against people because there are plenty of times I don't know what I'm talking about, but when you're trying to convince me to buy something, you should know your snow.
That said, Laguna Seca is one of my absolute favorite tracks, for watching real racing and cutting laps with a good sim both, which is part of why that crap claim bothered me as much as it did. It is very cool, and serious fun when you get it right, but it is certainly not one of the most technical tracks in the world. It has A very technical turn, and it's not easy by any means (and no, I have never driven it for real) but that statement just put me completely off.
So I'll save 5 bucks and just get Shift 2, but would like to hear your similar experiences. Have you ever decided NOT to purchase a game just because of the ad for it?
