I was wondering how people become mods and things of the sort on this website. Just curious. It didn't seem like there is way, and if there is there is a lack of information in that particular field. Again, just curious.

There isn't a public process really.
Last time 6 or so mods were added by CG, the owner of the site; he picked some active people from the more active high-level users. As far as I know, no vetting process or requirements of the position were made public.

I think active/longstanding members are approached when the site needs more mods.

you can apply by sending a ticket, but i doubt that will work unless they see you around being useful.

I'll have to look into ranking up my account, money is a little tight, but I'll see what I can do I suppose.

If you want to rank up in the off chance of becoming a mod then you're doing it wrong.

I haven't been attempting, so yes, very wrong lol. What would you suggest?

I'd forget about becoming a moderator. It's a responsibility seldom handed out.
Just make GAs if you feel like giving away stuff to people you don't know. Don't expect anything back and don't make yourself poor in the process ;)

Lol, I will. I just find myself very interested in positions like this, I like giving back to a community that gives so much to other people.

Speaking of which, what is the best way to level up your contributor level? a bunch of small giveaways, a bunch of big giveaways? or is there some other trick?

You giveaway games bevause you want to contribute to community not to 'trick' system.i can already tell you that you are not going to become mod.ever.

Trick as in strategy, not trying to trick anyone, I would like to be a mod to help give back to the community.

Firstly, a lot of people will tell you "if you're giving games to level up, you're doing it wrong". I agree with them, but regardless, I don't really care. The best way to level up is a little relative. Keep in mind bundled games only give 15% of their value to your cv (contributor value), and any game you give away more than five copies, end up giving you only 5% of their real value. Games discounted too much also get added in the bundled list, and give you only 15% of their value. Do your math and decide if there's any current bundle worth being given away, or if you should buy an unbundled game when on sale. Also, key websites such as greenmangaming, kinguin, bundlestars, humble store and the infamous G2A (please try to never use this one) are your friends for getting cheap, and potentially unbundled games, to give away. You can find the list of bundled games here.

What value does one get for an unbundled game?

100% of their value. But, let's say you give away a $60 game. If, in a few months, the game drops to $40, your cv drops as well. The only scenario where this doesn't happen is when a game you gave away gets bundled (after your giveaway). If that happens, you'll still get your full value for the game, and not the 15%.

Value comes from Steams US price.

I couldn't tell you exactly "why" I was selected, but for me...

I was a well-liked contributor to the community, that started various discussion threads on ways we could make the site better. I had a genuine concern for the well-being and success of the site. It was after one of these threads that cg reached out to me.

I'm sure it also helps to be polite and well spoken. At minimum, use of proper grammar and punctuation at all times. I think you'll find this is likely a common trait the mods share; it shows professionalism.

It's cool to look back on those threads because a lot of things HAVE been implemented into the site.

I will try my best. I assure you I am only interested so I can help make this site the best it can be. Thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it.

Another question, if I did have an idea for this site would I just make a discussion explaining my ideas, or is there a better way of presenting my ideas?

Ah, see I looked right at that, and it slipped over my head. Thank you for pointing that out, I don't know that I would have even realized as it was so obvious.
