If you have a high enough Scribe skill, the PurpleScrollPattern lets you learn how to make purple scrolls. It's really just a cosmetic change, no actual in-game effect.

I was GrayLordGifter or something like that... I thought someone hacked me, and then started a friendly conversation using my nickname.... So, currently, I appear as WhoAreYou?.

I am not pleased from stuff that change anything out of the nowhere.
Without infos, without possibilities to say "good idea/ok/bad idea", without the possibility to say "I don't want my, well known, name changed to a random crap name and my, well known, Avatar changed to a cheap looking pixel sword".

These nicknames remind me of the ones you got randomly assigned back when you registered for Pottermore, where people would be called something like MagicPatronus7 or HazelPotion15 :D

This sounds like that time when it was a glitch or a hack, not too sure, when you basically entered another random person and could see all their keys/games, full name and address. If you tried claiming or making a purchase it would -fortunately- fail so your stuff was safe, aside from the info leak.. XD
was it this IG or I'm mistaken?
I remember entering (after broken pages/site, delays, etc) and seeing another name, avatar and steam account linked to library, that clearly wasn't our own account!

They probably realized their mistake in silently activating the feature and that setting is on by default now. It wasn't before.

Everything seems to be back to before the change is made. You have a check box option of using your Steam Avatar and Name. That does not mean the site is error free at least I am back to what it was.

I logged into my account this morning to see that my avatar and nickname had changed to something completely random. Whereas before my avatar was the same as my Steam account it's now an icon of a red bottle and my nickname has changed from BauerBoy24 to GrayTerrorAmulet. I definitely didn't make those changes.
I've reset my password as a precaution and contacted support but is anyone else is experiencing a similar issue?
EDIT: Looks like I'm not the only one. Seems like it would have been good of them to announce this sort of change so people don't think their account was hacked. Anyway, feel free to share your weird nicknames below :D
EDIT 2: I got a response to my email (for anyone that's interested):
I'm just gonna tell them to warn us in the future and leave it at that. I doubt they will, but it's worth a try ;)
EDIT 3: As some people have noticed, they've now added an option to use your steam name and avatar instead of the new name and icon. Looks like the 'Use Steam avatar and Steam username' option is selected by default. Maybe this was a result of all the backlash.
