I have 10 gems separated from the rest, any advice about how to bring them all together?

Tried asking some steam friends to do an exchange, as i read on Steam forums this is a way to do it, but the ones i ask are afraid of doing it. Maybe they think they are doing something wrong or that i want to trick them somehow? Anyway, there is a way to do it or any advice besides unfriend those people?
