I plan on getting a new PC soon, but my budget is about $500. Anyone know a good build for around that price? Any help would be much appreciated!

That power supply sucks though. Get something brand name there at least.

What. Its owned by OCZ and is a pretty good budget PSU. Also, 550w on 12v rail is great.

Quality is better than rest of OCZ anyways.

The 550w for OCZ is iffy. If you feel lucky then go for.

What? Thats not a 550w OCZ. Its a PCP&C with 550w on the 12v rail.

PCP&C IS a brand name

It is BARELY bronze 80+ certified, has loose voltage regulation at the 3.3V, and a noisy fan at high loads. but it's technically a "80+ certified" psu... albeit lowest they give.

It needs gold plated wiring to keep microwaves out.

That Adda fan is kind of loud but honestly pointing 3.3v doesn't matter shit. No one really relies and that for a lot of stuff and if it drops, so what.

Also, what else would you use at that price range?

$45 after MiR.. still 600w.. silver cert... granted I'm not a fan of modular but to each his own.

80 PLUS CERTIFIED =/= Silver.

Also, it delivers less power on 12v anyways so its an inferior PSU.

I would get a 6870 instead of a 6850. You should get a 6870 for around 125€ (150$) and a 600W PSU is way over the top. 400W-500W is more than enough for this system.

PSUs are cheap anyway. If you get new parts, the PSU will come in handy.

Because PSUs cheaper than 49.99 are quality right?

probably what i'd get if i were to build another rig on a budget (my budget build as of 3 years ago is still playing most games fine and this 1 puts it to shame on cpu/gpu)
~ $475 no os... hope u got some friends or can get a student/business discount (if your in college/prestigious highschool, and hopefully taking a computer related class, ask the teacher if u have the ability for the MSDN academic alliance, how I got my OS.[assuming it still offers full OS's])

on a side note...
the 550 ti is still 1 of the best rated gpus for performance to cost.... don't really need much if ur budgeting as your probably not running a multi monitor or 3d setup anyway.

as far as a psu is concerned, especially if you consider offbrands, make sure it has the 80+ certified emblem.. or risk frying your internals.

Bench

Still inferior to 6850.

either way they are both more than one would really need with a single monitor, anything beyond is just bragging rights.. my 4670 plays todays games at 1080p still with med-high framerates on high settings and low AA...

Thats really debatable.

What if someone wants to play BF3 on ultra? Or witcher 2? For some people, medium isn't enough. As for getting that on a 4670, really? I used to have one and it didn't do all that great for a lot of stuff.

I guess it depends on the person, playable to 1 may not be to another, as long as my games look better and run smoother than a console I really don't care... rarely do I get a frame stutter playing CoD on high activity maps like nuketown, but still nothing like you can see on a 360 at times... then again the same argument stands for the audiophile crowd, some people are fine with a $20-40 speaker system using onboard sound where others feel that they need a $1k+ sound system + high end soundcard to "enjoy" their games... doesn't mean its necessary, just comes down to a preference.

I'm an audiophile so i'll speak that its not really about games. Thats part of it but its for music mainly. No one goes for real high end for solely gaming.

Also, try to change sound card to amp in this case.

I'd recommend going into a micro center if there's one nearby, they usually do instore bundle deals of Processor+Motherboard that might allow you to spend a little extra.

Agreed, I got $100 off my processor cause I got my motherboard there.

also look into any local computer fairs or wait for black friday sales if the new computer isn't an urgent necessity, as you can get more for your money, or the same build for much cheaper.
