Hey SG people!

I live in the USA and recently I've started traveling outside the country for holidays. So far I've been to Canada (4th of July), Italy (Valentine's Day), and Canada again (US Thanksgiving).

This year I'm going to London for US Thanksgiving.

Of course the London area is filled with many, many obvious places of interest for visitors. There's no way we can see everything in a week.

But beyond the obvious, we really want to try to find some lesser known places. So with that in mind:

Do any of you have any hidden gems or off-the-beaten-path locations around London that you would recommend?

(Anything within a couple of hours of London city centre should be fine, we'll have a car for part of the trip, and will be very close to the Underground for the rest of the time).

Thank you in advance!

Of course there are also some giveaways!

(Level 1 required; minor bot protection (just remove XX); GAs end a couple of days before my trip so I can make sure the keys get sent before I leave).

🤔…
British Museum
Not Found?
( 「'Θ')🔎Rosetta Stone
In any case, a country's collections provide a glimpse into the culture of that country.
Some may be offended by the display of looted colonial artifacts, but it is still "past history”.
Does it look like a block of stone?
If so, what about precious metals and works of art?
V&A · The Family Of Art, Design And Performance Museums
It is an museum that collects such "sparkling" things.
If you don't like the loot or the artwork, there are also fossils.
Natural History Museum
I don't remember for sure, but I heard that these three museums are free to visit when there are no "special exhibitions" going on.
Others may want to visit "Harry Potter" related Markets and stations.
Leadenhall Market - shopping & dining in the heart of the City of London
🧙🧙‍♀🦯🔮🔯

That's about all I can think of.
I've never been to England.
I think it would be good for some people to visit "temples" or facilities related to the "British Royal Family", but I have removed it from my selection because I have to be careful because an unknowing attitude or behavior can be a disrespectful gesture towards a faith or institution.

I hear a common way of greeting people in UK is to do the peace sign but with your palm facing you. You should try it out 😉

I lived in London for a while and must say: I have mixed feelings towards it. In the end of the day, it is just a big city, and other cities in UK are way nicer IMO (cough go to Scottland cough ,)

In terms of attractions, the natural history museum and the imperial war museum are the best ones I visited. The imperial war museum has a great exposition on the first world war.
You can also go to London's tower to see the jewels/ etc... but often I feel like it is not worth the entry fee.

My biggest suggestion is to book an entry for the sky garden (free). Go there by morning and you will have one of the best views from London. (The other great view is from the shard, but the entry fee was something around 30 pounds per person)

Since you are from US, I suppose the pub culture is closer than to the other countries I lived in... but I can always suggest my favourite: Waxy O'Connor. It's just by Chinatown, and was my to-go pub of choice.

First time i planned to go to england was with school, then 11th september happened and teachers were afraid to sit on planes, so it never happened.
Second time, i planned to go to england early 2020, then CoviD happend and the travel not happened.

So now ill never plan any trip to England in my life.

I plan to go to Thailand after christmas for 3 weeks, have the plane tickets and everything, hopefully England not going to conquer it until then because we can expect some worldwide crysis then :-)

Hi Canis! I love London, been there I think 6 times so far.

+1 for Borough Market (already recommended)
+1 for Brick Lane Market (already recommended)
I also recommend Billingsgate Fish Market. Even if you don't like fish. Cool experience. You have to be there early (like 7am at latest). I've had the heartiest, most authentic English breakfast at a bar for market workers there.
Have a walk around expensive Mayfair and Belgravia districts. It helps one understand what it means when a book casually mentions that someone visited their parents in Belgravia.
Hatton Garden jewelry district. The site of infamous heist (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatton_Garden_safe_deposit_burglary).

I personally haven't been to the UK, but I have heard good things about the Royal Armories museum from someone who has.
If you're at all remotely interested in weaponry/ armour, both historic and more modern, you might be interested in the Royal Armories Museum. They have a wide variety of displays featuring armour and weaponry from a variety of different ages.

You can check out their collection here: Royal Armories Collection. Important to note that this is just an archive of their whole collection, and not everything is on display/ at the London location.

I hope you have an enjoyable and safe trip!
Please do update us after with any interesting locations you visited! :P

It's kinda fun to hear about Royal Armories, I literally live, where I can see the whole museum out of the window. It's not the London one though. But I fully agree, it is a lovely experience and quite surprising in moments.

During the winter season in London, they set up Winder Wonderland in Hyde Park, which is basically loads of Theme Park attractions, shows, and good European food. That itself can be a whole day experience, which is fantastic.

I lived in London for 4 months, but it was too expensive for me and my friend, therefore we moved out. It's a fantastic place to be, you can fully be yourself without judgment. It is full of different cultures and interesting hidden spots, and you can even go to some of them fully free. If you need any help or advice, just reply to this comment and I will drop some links or names for the locations.

Hyde Park was definitely on the "let's try to do it if we can" list... but Winter Wonderland sounds awesome, now we need to check it out - thanks for that tip!

I am always up for some hidden spots, especially from someone who lived there and really knows the area!
