...to which they were invited because they give away stuff.

Oh, every single one was an invite without asking or showing interest? Mea culpa, Khalaq.

Lest it be taken out of context, I will point out that my comment was general rather than specific. Anyone wanting precise information about the context of a user joining any specific group should talk to that user.

SimGive? I've heard that mentioned before. Is that a group, cucooo?

Yep. It was a legit question.:)
Thank you for letting me know what it is. Is this run at a specific time of the year?:)

Every sale, stringent entry requirements, very elitist.
Imho, probably needs to change some of its "previous member" rules to let fresh blood in, also arguably it needs a competitor as its getting a little stale rather than the best from the site going crazy. A lot of the guys in the event now you won't recognise as they long since went quiet but pop up every sale for the event. Its less of an event now, more the same top guys giving each other 50/60 AAA titles. Also a lot of politics is involved, a lot of "who do you know" will get you in.
That being said, its still clearly by far the best event going and used to break the site yearly. I just think its now more of a group than an event. There are also still most the top gifters from the site in the group. It still breaks records. You'd still be mad to not want to be in it.
Summary, its great but probably needs a bit of reforming.

Thanks again for all the information. There's still a lot I don't know about SG, especially the nitty-gritty things.:)
Have a great Tuesday (I know I will, as I have it off! ;) ). :)

+1 to the "thanks for the info." I'd heard the term but had no idea what it was. It seemed like it was sort of like Fight Club.

erm, actually the statistics for the last event are as follows:
Members who have participated in every SimGive event from the start - 7 users
Members who have participated in 7 SimGiv events in the past - 3 users
Members who have participated in 6 SimGiv events in the past - 7 users
Members who have participated in 5 SimGiv events in the past - 7 users
Members who have participated in 4 SimGiv events in the past - 5 users
Members who have participated in 3 SimGiv events in the past - 1 user
Members who have participated in 2 SimGiv events in the past - 8 users
Members who have participated in only 1 SimGiv event in the past - 19 users
Members who Never participated in SimGive before and for whom it was First event ever - 13 users
So all in all out of 70 members 19% are total fresh blood and 46% are newcomers having 0/1 events in total. Real veterans are minority in SimGive ;p

I stand corrected then!
Even with what I said, I still believe its the best event on SG by far. It just seems a little groupy rather than eventy after so many years. Its a shame people don't know about it, perhaps bigger promotion next sale! :)
Comment has been collapsed.
no problem ;) actual case is there are way more than good contributors (both GA-wise and community-wise) on SG than these 70 spots, thus when looking at roaster and seeing all the SG top-dogs in the group and not using historical statistics data it's easy to assume that damn, these must be the same guys doing the same event over and over again ;p
Althou you still could know better, considering your Kitten alone is not a veteran and is in the event ;p
As for promotion, maybe it's just me but in general lately for a year or so SG userbase seems a lot less focused on community aspect. Most of what we get nowadays are all kind of deals, sales, bundles etc topics and mostly active community topics are all kinds of drama threads. It may take a part with SimGive not being so present on forums. A lot of people nowadays focus rather on GAs only not on community aspect.

Which is a damn shame, I hope the next one finds more success than this one in terms of being widely acknowledged. There just seemed to be less fanfare about this one, which was a shame because its really really worth everyones attention.
Its more the OLD heads I see in there, there was a lot of people I was like "who" when looking at the members, no offence to anyone of course, but in the oooooold days it used to be the who's who list of the forums. I guess you're right though, the reason for that is most the "who's who" have either left the forum or are largely inactive.
I miss the older days of huge threads which got 1,000's of comments and massive puzzles that took months and the community to solve.
Fwiw, I think that its going to carry on being successful no matter who is in it. I just wish there was a bit more publicity from everyone, it used to be really exciting for everyone, not just those who were in it.

well another thing is that staff had lot morte to do this time than to just sit on forums and promote the event ;p We were first betatesting and then launching our new website, totally reworking how the group works and it took a lot of work especially on Timm's part but on other event admins/mods as well. there's only so many things one can do in a limited time and revamping the group work-scheme was obviously a priority over building up the hype on the forums ;p

welll...lots of games wons are from private groups they made so... boosting with friends is better :p.+lvl.+chance of entering high lvl gives...ez :p.

i replied to one guy what i thinked, not about you xD.Is not bad doing that. sorry if you thinked i was talking about you specifically.i tried to say that much wins are from groups giveaways.(not natal english talker)sorry for the missunderstading.

His won count is the only reason he's not on my WL, but at the same time I literally can't bring up anything against him, so maybe I blacklisted him for a day or two, then realized how pointless it is so removed. His puzzle-guide alone would worth a free getaway card from the BL :D
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't blacklist for amount won or ratio etc. So its hard for me to grasp when people do, but I've come to a point where I kinda get it, but its the first time I'd seen someone say that he had been a dick.
Also, his puzzle guide is whitelist worthy alone, I'm sure 100's have got through puzzles based solely on that! :3 He's such a good member of the site, maybe times are changing and I need to get with the times.

I also stopped doing on ratio, it's just that we don't really have people who are in less "need" of winning more, but at the same time I really didn't want to deny more chances - so just went with not giving an extra one :D (Not like I give away so much valuable or rare stuff)
Comment has been collapsed.
I tend to find a lot of "high amount" winners are top people, contributed themselves loads and/or are just generally great to chat with. Theres pleanty of "good" ratio dickheads out there as well as "poor" ratio dickheads. So i'm glad you stopped blacklisting on ratio.
In my eyes blacklisting is a last resort rather than a filter, people seem to use it to filter out so called "leechers" rather than people who have been awful with them.

Trading with a nice person, only to find it out that he's on my blacklist with list 1:200 ratio (all activated, no multi) was an interesting experience - they may don't give a shit about giveaways, but that doesn't mean they do the same with everything. Same-ish that Sighery (hope no typo) is not exactly active GA-wise, while being an incredible contributor through scripts, and I haven't even look at his ratio before that, so maybe, maaaaybe ratio is absolutely needless of a stat.
On the other hand I still blacklist rulebreakers, as long as long as no remorse about it and/or mending to it. My favourite story is still my adventures with Fatality, whom I had blacklisted, after him asking why I explained him (I did a calling out), he said he'll fix it, I got suspended, I laughed (and struggled with read only forums for 2 days), I came back, he fixed stuff, now on my whitelist :D

I mean dont get me wrong im not starting a war against the guy or anything .
He may be an amazing person and all , he was just a dick towards me ( not really w/o a reason but thats another side of the coin :) ) but that doesnt change the fact .
As for his valuable posts , even with that wall of text i still have no clue how the puzzles here work so i just ignore that section of the forum .
He may be a valuable member for you and many more ppl in forum , thats cool . cant be all buddy buddy with everyone :)
For me is a guy who leech a lot of games .

only because you're pretty much asshole every time I interact with you. heck even more - as this topic proves you feel urge to be asshole to me even when not interacting with me. Who's the bad guy here? At least I don't feel the urge to talk bad about others behind their backs ;p

not even close to even my personal record ;) Personal record was over 90 (91-93 - don't remember exactly) wins in a day but also thanks to event and there's been several people who won over 100 GAs in one day from one event alone.
Non-event record was 21 GAs won in a single day.

I get 8 games, in 3 days. And that happened at christmast......
really annoying coincidence

Space cat hates me. I think I might need to perform a ritual involving some well selected gifs and sacrifices to appease the great feline in the sky.

Remember. If you are going to sacrifice a chicken, use a live one. A bucket of KFC won't suffice.

Who's the top gifter?
Interesting question but it'd cause chaos. Out would come all the haters, dev keys, real cv, happy hour farming, group buys farming, region locks...etc etc...
So annoying to see recently the SG etiquette revolves around being shitty.
Comment has been collapsed.
considering there's been dev GAs with like 25000 copies it's really not relevant to focus on that ;p
Only solution (beside cg sharing his secret data which is not going to happen ;p) I can think of is asking knsys who has the biggest RealCV Value on SGT records. That is if he even keeps that data recorded ;p
