I'm sorry to bother you peoples but would ya mind helping a fella get his first new PC/Laptop in 7 years?

A Dell Envy 13 - around 1000 USD
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG - 550 USD on Amazon
or
Any other gamingish laptop,

Or, build a i3 6100 with a 1050 ti or 1060 3gb, 8gb memory and also to go SSD or not. And Mobo suggestion for potential future upgrades?
Currently looking at MSI H110I Pro LGA 1151. Price here is around $600 minus monitor/mouse/KB

I do appreciate any knowledge you guys can drop on me and will definitely do a giveaway for a recent AAA title for you guys once I pull the trigger on whatever you guys suggest.

Thanks in advance!

Which would you choose?

Laptop
Build a PC
Go get a PS4 Pro
Go get an Xbone

Is he a mobile person? This alone determines which one he should buy.

Do not need to be mobile, so probably can pick up a cheap laptop in the future if needed for work.

I'm not sure of your intended uses but this is still probably relevant. Although there are some merits to gaming laptops such as when and if you travel a lot but otherwise I say avoid them. Go for the desktop. You'll get better components for the price and the possibility of future upgrades.

I was thinking this too. Thanks for your input.

I need a new computer for work but like you said since I do game, might be better to invest in building a pPCsince this see more money efficient. I can probably pick up a cheap laptop later on for my mobile needs.

Maybe i5 6400 or 6500 + Gtx 1060 + 8 or 16 ram + 128 or 256 gb ssd + 1 tb hdd.

I was thinking about the i5 too. I heard for gaming the i3 should be fine. As long as I am not doing graphics and video/ music and rendering stuff I should be fine.

Do you know if I wanted to stream on twitch, what parts are important?

For twitch you need a graphic card from gtx series. And if you want do render you need a strong cpu. If you found money upgrade cpu i5 6600k (220$).

i5 6600k would be pricey because then he'd have to get a z170 motherboard as well. He's probably better off with i5 6500 + gtx 1060

Yes. And i think a z170 motherboard is nearly 150$.

The 6400 is a popular suggestion being the cheapest i5 available. Having briefly looked into building a computer with said CPU, what's a well reviewed, quality motherboard to put it on if the Z170 is too expensive and unnecessary?

But it's upgradeble and compatible with new techs.

The Z170 is what I was originally looking to put the 6400 on but the comment above implied it might only be necessary for the 6600K so I was wondering what a cheaper alternative for the 6400 would be even if the Z170 is a better investment for future upgrades.

We are talking same mate. 6400 is cheaper yes but if he want to system upgrade he must buy a new motherboard. And i said "If you found money.".

Yep the z170 would be overkill if you're on a budget and you don't plan on overclocking. Look into LGA1151 B150 ddr4 motherboards

So the jump from i3 to i5 is worth it.

It's worth it if you have the money. You probably don't want to get the i5 6600k though unless you have plans for overclocking because otherwise it's a waste of money

Of course if you render videos. Your cpu must be strong.

he could hit 60 fps for some but definitely not all games. probably better off getting i5 + gtx 1060 6gb or rx 480 8gb with 8 or 16gb ram and 1tb+ hdd

Thanks. Seems like SSD is the norm now for at least the operating system.

Take MSI - they still make reliable hardware. Or build a desktop PC. Second is much better if you don't need mobility all the time.
