My advice...
If you have a reasonable PC that can keep up with current consoles, then do not waste money on current gen consoles.
Sony exclusives, if they are MP focused, they will launch on PC early. If the game is SP focused or a mix of SP and MP, then they will get released years later on PC. Games on pc are also usually much cheaper, the downside of it all is that they are digital only. On PS5 you can buy a game in used condition and resell it after being done with it, but nowadays a lot of people keep their games, so idk...
Both xbox series and ps5 are a waste of money, i have both of them, xbox series x, i have it for like 2 years now, played it for like 6 months while i had gamepass still going, after it was over, it has never been used again, so that is 1.5 years collecting dust without being powered on (which is bad, i should give it a go see if its still going). The PS5, i've used it from time to time, have it for like 1.5 years, the difference between ps5 and XSX is that i bought a bunch of games on sale for the ps5 that weren't on pc yet, so now i have a backlog of games to play on that console. Along with the ps5, i got a Steamdeck 64gb back then and a switch v2. Out of all these purchases, i've used SD the most, the fact that i can go to bed early and play backlog games is just an amazing touch for anyone with a long enough library on steam. I also use the SD to multitask, i usually AFK runescape 3 for example and do some grind, while i play on my pc or watch movies or anything like that. So this purchase was definetely worth it. The switch has seen some use like the ps5 but the system is a waste of money unless you want to play online, because SD can run switch games just fine, if you know what i mean...
As for the controller, i have no issues, i do prefer the xbox controller. PS4 vs PS5, i prefer the touch of PS5 controller, but i have bigger hands, PS4 controller was alright for me, but the old PS controllers from PS3 and previous generations, the controller was too small for me, it was still playable, but shooter games was just bad for me. Xbox controllers are the perfect match for my hand and i prefer them because of that.
Smaller controller recomendations, i have no clue, i did see a bunch of controllers not long ago online but i did not search for anything smaller than the ps5 original one, but i could give it a go (search) and post it here later if i find anything.
EDIT:
Your current rig specs are suitable for current gen gaming, i did check your steam profile to see if you had specs as some people do post it there. So any build similar to yours is fine enough to survive the generation, untill next gen systems drop and start pushing specs beyond your current build.

I've done some research, you might be out of luck...
Your best option is to remap buttons on the original controller, to see if you can avoid hand strains.
Alternatively is to invest on a xbox-shaped controller and see if that works out, but the issue with the xbox shaped controllers that are 100% confirmed to be compatible with ps5, they are usually PRO edition controllers, which are way overpriced. Like the Naco Revolution 5 pro, Razer Wolverine V2 Pro, Victrix Pro BFG. These aren't all smaller, they are shaped differently, which can help some people or actually make it worst.
The alternative cheap versions that state they work for PS5, you never know if they work 100% with the ps5 or simply just function based on what they can from the ps4 driver. A cheap alternative to the ps4 controller should also work on ps5 with a driver update, but the controller will be limited towards ps4 games on the ps5, which does not fix your problem because ps5 games would be out of reach, unless you played them elsewhere or remapped the original controller in order to fit your hand.
I'm not going recommend any cheap alternatives because of that issue alone, i don't want to recommend something that says it works on ps5, but then it is limited to ps4 stuff on the ps5, which would be annoying and a scam.

Uh...? What are you on about Mayanaise?
Fun fact, i did actually read the entire post, but since OP is replying for someone else, i speak with him directly. What i tell him, goes both for him and his friend.
If you pay attention to the end of the first comment, i did edit once and stated "similar builds" to what he has, which involves the idea that if his friend has something similar to what he has currently, then they are fine and should ignore the ps5 for the most part and instead play on pc with a ps4 controller.
Also, why would i edit the first comment with another wall of text based on my fast research, making it harder to read and a cluster F of a comment.
Thanks for the pointless reply, much appreciated!

A friend of mine recently bought a PS5 (not the Pro) and after unboxing it, instantly saw an issue, and after some research she might have to refund it and go back to a PS4, which means missing out on a lot of current gen exclusives.
The issue is the PS5 controller, she has the standard PS5 DualSense controller but she has little hands and the DualSense is much bigger, wider, deeper, higher, heavier, etc, then the PS4 DualShock controllers she is use to. She finds it awkward to hold and can't reach some buttons, she hasn't tried it much but just testing it hurt her wrists a bit and after looking online, many have commented on it giving regular or hardcore gamers sore wrists.
I've had a look myself at recommend PS5 controllers and all the 3rd party controllers (which don't have haptic feedback and adaptive triggers ... cause PS exclusive) are somehow even heavier ... some even bigger (wider, etc)!
Is there anyone who had similar issues with the PS5 controllers but managed to find a suitable 3rd party one that is smaller and lighter? If it doesn't cost an arm and a leg that would be a bonus but I'll take any options at this point.
Yes, I am aware you can use a PS4 controller but that only works on PS4 games, and as I said at the start, she would miss out of current gen exclusives ... and why bother having a PS5 when PS4 can do the same job and not be a waste of $$.
