So, I was planning on getting the Final Fantasy IV and it's sequel during the steam sale. Mainly because the original FFIV was my favorite SNES game(Was FFII back then though)..My question is this! How does the game stack up to the original SNES? It looks like better graphics, and apparently voice overs, but does it play as well? Has anything been added to make in more exciting? Also, I have never played the sequel, is that even worth getting or is it way too short/lame to bother with?

The best FFIV version is by far the one for PSP., grab that one if you can.

I do have a PSP, but was told the PSP version was basically the SNES version, which is why I never got it since I still have the SNES version(And surprisingly as of about 6 months ago, the battery was still working)

The PSP version is the ultimate version of FF4, has awesome revamped 2D graphics (which looks billion times better than the shit remakes we got on steam), and also has After Years + a short story between the 2 :)

The PSP one includes the expansion and it simply looks fantastic. It's EXACTLY what updated sprites should look like. Not the abomination that are the mobile sprites. And the 3D isn't charming if it isn't on a portable, it's also frame locked last I check, but that might have changed. I'm no FPS enthusiast (I have no problem playing 30 fps locked console racers on pc) but when I tried playing it, it was actually very distracting and visibly laggy.

That's the definitive version to get unless you really, really hate 2D.

I loved the game but I would recommend getting a PSP emulator and getting the games there.
EDIT: After seeing your response to the first comment, what did they add in the steam version?

from what I can tell it has 3Dish type graphics and voice overs(Which im not a fan of)...it maybe the same release as the DS version..(I never played that one either)...i'm only going by the screenshots and the video though since i dont know anyone who actually has the STEAM release.

It's basically a port of the mobile version that was a port of the DS version. It's the best 3D looking one but it also has frame rate issues last I checked.

As already said, the PSP version is the best. Its basically a fully updated classic version with new content that was added over the years of ports to other systems, along with The After Years and a campaign set between the original game and that content.
PSP changes

The PC version is based on the DS remake. It lost content added in ports, and made changes that won't appeal to everyone. It has its own special content, but well, PSP all the way for me.

huh! Well, maybe I should look into grabbing the PSP version too then...since pretty much everyone is saying it's the better release....I almost picked it up once, but my GF at the time told me it was exactly like the SNES, so instead I ended up picking up LUNAR..lol

If you can get both, sure. You can experience the exclusive content for each game that way.

Exactly! And the PSP version is beautiful! I'm really not a fan of the style of the DS version...

It was okay, you might want to get the cheatengine cheat though just so you can speed up the slowness of the games, and you can turn off and on the random encounters at will.

didn't think Cheat engine works on steam games?

It works, tried it on several, and makes FF runs so much better.
