It should be instantaneous. If nothing has left your Steam wallet, there might be a problem. If you don't receive it soon, contact Steam support and explain the problem to them.

If you don't see your gift within your steam inventory, try checking your email that is linked to your steam account. You will also get an email from steam staying you have received a gift. Then from there you can either add it to your library or inventory.

you need to wait for a few (i hate to say this,but..) hours if this has been your first purchase from steam,they're verifying your card and what not. i had the same experience a few months back, but i got everything i bought, i just had to wait. also, the next few times were like that as well,but since then,it's instantaneous :)
