That would have been my answer before those mostly terrible last seasons. Still love the old X-files though.

I refuse to acknowledge their existence. I recently rewatched select best "monster of the week" episodes from seasons 1-7 with wife. They hold up so well! 10/10 would recommend.

Haha! I also live in a world where this didn't happen.
And I also do themed rewatch with my gf! We have a "Pre-movie conspiracy" run going right now.
It's crazy how a show from last century is holding so well, narratively and hell, even when it comes to effects. Not a lot of shows from the 90ies can say that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The only thing I can think of that didn't hold up well: at one point a male coworker playfully slapped Scully's ass. She shrugged it off with annoyed face expression.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah the cultural aspects of the show squarely anchor it in the 90ies, especially the work environment.
I think the lack of diversity (it's a bad word now, I know) in the writers room let a lot of things pass at first and that Gillian Anderson had a positive influence on that kind of things later on but there are still moments that make you go "yep, it was the 90ies alright"
Was it season 1? I don't remember that specific moment but it sounds like Squeeze (no pun intended lol)

While the ass slap thing actually holds up (we talked about this more below) one of the things I can think of is how openly hostile or dismissive Scully is toward basically ANY other woman she encounters 😅

I might be wrong but from what I remember that happens in Dreamland, the episode where Mulder gets body swapped with that bored, horny, married Area 51 Men in Black guy.

So as far as Scully can tell it's Mulder slapping her ass - somebody she's been working together closely for several years and for whom she normally holds great respect - which explains her reaction which is more flabbergasted rather than angry.

Personally I didn't like the overall story-arc as much as some of the crazy standalone episodes but still... in my opinion one of the best mystery shows of all times together with Twin Peaks and probably Lost.

I also prefer "monster of the week" standalone episodes. Some of the conspiracy story arc was memorable, though. The black oil moments were some of the scariest TV moments of my teenage years. Conspiracy story arc suffers from season extensions, they had to somehow wrap it up, but then after the show was extended they had to go "oh no, the conspiracy is even deeper".

Oh yeah 😄 Krycek was such a cool and interesting character.

For me it was that episode with the hillbilly incest family...there was this scene it was so scary and visually gross... that definitely left a mark 😅

Home. It was so gross that the episode was skipped on every subsequent rerun on Fox. It was only available to watch to people who didn't own the show when it got to Netflix lol

Funny I never got into Twin Peaks. To me it was always just a soap opera with oddities to make it look much deeper than it actually was.
Actually pretty much what I thought about Lost too so it's probably me lol

Ah you're right. It is Dreamland. She's pissed but she is more in shock than anything. If it had been anyone else she would definitely have expressed her outrage in a much different way. She didn't know it was Morris ofc.

They are among my favorites as well. I also enjoyed the 3rd season of Twin Peaks, despite it being somewhat different. Maybe I didn't enjoy the infamous woodsmen episode, but I appreciate it on some level.

And everything involving it (pre-cancellation builds,FMVs & whatever else) has been MIA ever since. No idea if its all gone for good or in some ancient work PC lying in a Microsoft warehouse among tons of other junk from their buyouts (assuming Vivendi/ActiBlizz didn't ditch it all beforehand, nevermind the potential data degradation).Best case scenario would be someone leaking the whole thing (like "Captain Blood"-a 100% complete game that got lost in the ether for a decade due to-of course-publisher BS) & who knows if thats even possible at this point (leaving us with just Freespace B5 mods & "Into the Fire" becoming literal lostech).
A kick in the teeth across the board.

Yup....all we were left with was that barely functional demo, and some info that showed just how far along the game was before they pulled the plug.

I mean, I Found Her and the Freespace mods are damn good, but neither have what ITF was set to be.
