I love golf, but it hates me.

yes. played for 8 years almost daily until i was 18, now last 3 years it's been like few times a year + Video games.
As for beginner, maybe, use softer balls while you don't know how to spin balls; don't try to be perfect at one part of play, although putting is the most important to learn.

Over here, golf is a very popular thing in the summer... Personally, I dislike it.
