You get to see a wide range of prices for the same products on the Steam Market.

So I was wondering...

Has anybody here ever sold an item at a ridiculously high price on the Steam Market?

A lot of the ones you see might be trading. That's a system to transfer steam wallet, since you can't actually just send someone money from Steam wallet. Say you want to give someone $20 Steam wallet for a game. They list a worthless item on the Steam Marketplace for $23 (to account for the percent Steam takes off, which I think is 15%), and you buy it. THey then gift you the game.

Remember doing that in some MMO, where you couldn't transfer "money" directly for some reason. Pity Valve take a piece of the action with real money...

I understand them taking a small percentage for every transaction in the market, but 15% is way too much.

When the game is from another dev, Valve takes 5% and the dev gets the other 10%.

Still it only costs a fraction of a penny for valve to do a market sale and even less than that, if anything, for the devs. It's essentially pure profit.

So start your own server farm? I mean yes, it's lame, but it's also pretty "DUH" too

Yeah, I agree. I'm not going to get angry about the fact that Steam and the devs want to make money off this system. Why shouldn't they? Besides, the devs getting 10% is awesome. Game developers usually don't make enough money for how much work they do anyway.

I sold two copies of Dota 2, without being the cheapest. I sold each for 7 cents, that's how I got 10 cents.
