Coals were a disaster, I don't think they will be doing that again. I did get quite a lot of awesome stuff out of it though. The Orange Box, HIB1/2, E.Y.E and CSS.

Well, the mods on the steam forums had their hands full, the trading section was total chaos full of double posters bumping topics every 2 minutes. Which was actually necessary because you topic would disappear into oblivion if you didn't,

The sale is confirmed to start soon (from the dev of SOTMC). I doubt there will be free games again becuase the abuse last year but I hope there will be something to get free stuff again.

There were many abusers because most of the bundle games got achievements for coal and they could make 100 accounts with $1. That's abuse. After that Humble Bundle made the "only Steam keys for purchases over $1" rule.

Ah I forgot that they used to give steam keys for 1 cent, which was pretty dumb if you ask me. I don't see why they wouldn't give free games this year since the bundles are $1 for steam keys. People will always make multiple accounts when ever there is a set amount of items or what ever one account can get. Valve knows this and if they gave away free games in the past I don't see why they would stop after last year.

Apparently there is still something that stops Valve from giving free games away (look at the summer sale). And IMO it wasn't dumb from HIB, it was generous from the devs. The people who abused it were the idiots. I also hope that there will be free stuff again ;)

I only got alien breed assult from the summer 2011 event and most of the other stuff was dlc. It's going to be pretty hard for them to top last years winter sale if they aren't giving away surprises.

There were MANY abusers. Some of them had 70+ alt accounts. You should have been active on Steam forums at the time, there were links to profiles NAME1 with friends NAME2-NAME120, all the same guy...

Remember how was last year? Thousands farmers, with thousand x thousand accounts taking good games and we got Bad Rats and few coals.

I hope that Valve won't make the same mistake and just add games to libraries instead of giving away tradable gifts. That should stop farmers and we still would get free games.
