I just had a post deleted and the topic I posted it in closed. I guess the OP was violating a rule? I don't know. He was asking why he hadn't won anything. So I posted some advice, then I made a giveaway, and asked people who had previously won anything to please not enter, you know, give some new people a chance, hopefully give some newbie some faith in the system. I don't think it was out of line.

The post was immediately deleted and the topic closed. I'm not mad, y'all (staff) run your house how you choose. I may not agree, but it isn't my place to say. What I'm asking is, I have this giveaway, and it's invite only, how best can I present it with my original goal in mind? Or would that be frowned upon? It's just a "lowly" bundle game. It's Oil Rush.

Ideas?

There's no puzzle here. I don't believe in making people jump through hoops for a chance to win something. For all that work they should just get the game. No hidden URL either. I don't even know how to do that (and wouldn't for the same reason).

Also as an aside, does this forum have a tracker? That is, a place where you can see all topics you've interacted with at a glance, to quickly reply in context and time to maintain a civil conversation?

edit: Found a group that only accepts people who have never won. I'm going to do giveaways through them, probably exclusively. If I can't gain CV on giveaways anyway, the best use of the keys, I think, will be on people who never won anything. I remember thinking SG may have been a scam or something back then, hundreds entered and 0 won. Now that I've won a few I've given 4-5 times what I've won, and I'm hoping that wins will help others give more, which in turn helps us all. At least that's my theory. It may not be airtight, but it's what I'm working with currently.

If you have 0 wins, 500+ entries, you've been here for 3 months at least, and you have fewer than 200 games in your Steam library, apply for membership in the group and I hope I can gift you your first game here on SG.

I'm closing this now, since I found what I came for. (Ironic, isn't it?)

You can click account -> View Replies.
You can also place special rules on private giveaways with support approval.
You could then just place the link and those who don't follow the rules get re-rolled.
It's odd that your post was deleted.

Thanks, that will help a lot. I generally like to help out and follow-ups are helpful.

I don't blame the staff. Maybe I posted right as they closed it and it happened automatically. Maybe it didn't go through. I was just a little bothered that I try to help this guy (gal?) and I got the door closed on me, so to speak.

I'm also an idiot. I meant to make the giveaway 42 hours from now like I said. I figure, Wednesday by 11PM my time would give people adequate time. The giveaway says 4 weeks. So what I did, clicking on the next month, rather than clicking on the 2nd, I must have clicked a date in the last week. Stupid mistake. So now I have 4 weeks to figure it out.

Guess I'll contact support, see what they say. I'm not opposed to just throwing the link in the forum, just wondering if maybe there's a better way.

You can ask people interested in joining to post here, and personally give them the link via Steam chat.

I like that idea. I have seen groups dedicated to unlucky members. I don't see a reason to make a new one, one of the existing ones should suit my needs.

Now I can't find them. I found the one called "The Last Chance" but I thought there was another. Guess I will try TLC for this one.

Thanks again. I just noticed that TLC has a $100 CV requirement. Asked anyway. The giveaway is for 4 weeks (my mistake, I meant 2 days but clicked the wrong date) so I will give them time to respond. If they say no, I'll try another group. But they seem like a decent lot.
