I am playing New Super Mario Bros U right now - with an emulator! I am very surprised it already works so well, since the console is not that old. Very impressive. I wish PS3/XBox 360 emulators were already at that level. ;)

Emulators ≠ piracy

It is supposed you must own the original game images to run them. There aren't game images in cemu's website.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How would one go about legally obtaining the images?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

dumping them yourself.
For WiiU is not that hard .

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah? I don't know anything about this. But, if it's that easy, it might be an attractive option.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i don't think so. i mean, they don't have anything to do with piracy. you will only find the emulator software there, no games. as i understand it, this shouldn't be a problem. hope i'm right. ;)

I have a question related to it: does the emulator require the original WiiU BIOS? I assume CEMU site doesn't include that file even if the emulator needs it, I'm just curious.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i assume it somehow works differently with the WiiU, since i didn't have to load a BIOS file.all you need is a rip of your game and the emulator.

Any idea if it plays Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker well? It's one of the few games I actually own, but.. I never bothered to try t.

i wouldn't go that far. ;) still lots of problems. not every game runs great.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And you have to own the console to have a emulator of it as well just like u most own and rip the game yourself

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That depends on the emulator and what it needs. As long as the emulator uses all original code, and does not "borrow" anything owned by the company that made the console, it's legal on its own (and if they don't use all original code, then they can't distribute that at all). You still obviously need to own the games though.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

O thank you for that i always thought that u had to own the console of what you were emulating but that is some nice information to have

Yeah that's like a minimum to get it run somewhat smooth.

Akward about it though you have to pay monthly for the patron thing.

Well the patron thing, isn't free limited fps?

i don't think so. the games run at 60fps for me. where did you read that? all i read was that patreon contributors get early access to new builds.

Can't really remember where i read it. Can i add you? want to ask you something.

No, they only release early builds to their patreons. Nothing else. If you are not a patreon you will no be able to download the newest version until one week later.

a level editor for NSMBU. that's pretty cool. but why shouldn't i just sue Super Mario Maker then? ;)

Well ,this one was made before mario maker , also, you can do neat stuff(Adding logic, and creating overworld maps, as well as adding new resources)
Super Mario Maker is not 1-1 to SMBWU , but they have neats maps :D
More than editing, you should check the work of the modders (like this one)

It's actually pretty smooth! You can bind the controls as you wish, you toggle the TV and tablet screen by pressing TAB button and you can use a mouse to utilize the tablet screen.

looks great gotta try that out some time - the Dolphin Emulator for GC/Wii ran perfectly but
hadn't really tested it much as it was easier to modify the wii console to play every game

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah, Dolphin is pretty good. way better graphics-wise than the real console, actually. ^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Dolphin is indeed really good. I ocassionally use it for Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock and except for an ocassional lag spike (like maybe once per song) it runs very smoothly.

So in addition to ignoring my WiiU, which I have been doing for the past year or so, I can do so on my pc? :P

Honestly, I'm surprised this is already a thing. WiiU has an interesting, but very small, library and while I would advise non-Nintendo fans to avoid this console, I am glad that emulation is now possible.

That and everyone needs Bowser doing rhythmic gymnastics in their lives.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i am mainly interested in the platformers. and bayonetta 2, but that one doesn't work with the emulator. ^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, if you are a PC gamer (and you like Nintendo games, of course!), WiiU may have more to offer than their competitors, the only possible exception being PS4. It has lots of exclusives you cannot play anywhere else, some of them quite good like Xenoblade Chronicles, Bayonetta 2 or Pikmin 3.

As for the emulator, it is indeed not strictly piracy. Personally, I have nothing against it, but we all know that, alas, most people who use it do not buy the games they are running on it.

It's New Super Mario Bros U like the OP. I only try games i've seen work for others. I ain't no adventurer :)
It's definitely something with my drivers, they always crash with opengl. I couldn't even run the Doom demo because of that.

very neat, just tried it out myself - the first 2 levels of NSMBU ... perfectly playable (x360 controller too)
in the lvls constant 57 - 60 fps // map menu 30 fps with dips to 25 but that's no bother

yeah, i read about this problem. some people have 30fps on the map for some reason. works fine for me with 60. but honestly, the map doesn't really matter, right? as long as the levels run smooth. :)

You need to use a homebrew modded Wii U to dump Wii U ROMs using special software.

Nice, I just played a few tracks of Mario Kart 8 on it and the emulation is surprisingly smooth. A few frame rate hiccups here and there but for the most part it played just fine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's nice, I thought it'll take them longer to get CEMU to the point where it can run games so well. I don't think there are any WiiU games I'm interested in though. I am mostly waiting for Citra to be improved to the point where it can run 3DS games well enough for them to be enjoyable.

I've been using cemu since 1.3.2 version and the amount of progress made is really astonishing. In the most recent versions, I get 40 FPS on almost every game I tried (Captain Toad, SM3DW, Splatoon) with the hardware that's considered shitty these days (AMD athlon x3 435, r7 240, 6gb of ram)

I also recommend you guys to check Citra emulator for some nice 3D emulation.
