Okay, as most of you know, the Steam Summer Sale is coming up and according to what I've seen, it might be this Thursday (maybe). Well, I only have $20 in my Steam wallet and I can't add more as of right now... So, naturally, I have spent the entire day making a list of games that I would like to get during the sale.

Clicky 1
Clicky 2.

After I made the list, I then put the original price, the price if it was 75% off, and the price at 50% off. Then, I narrowed it down to the ones I will not leave the sale without. The first, Half-Life Complete pack, I then used a thing to see that that has been $10 in the Winter Sale, and so I figured it would be the same in the Summer Sale. Then, the Thief Series, I have seen it 75% off before so that's $4.75. Then I added Sniper: Ghost Warrior because I have a 90% off coupon which makes it $0.80, and on sale it's like $0.20 or $0.40, cheap as heck... Now, I have room for one more... I narrowed it down to these two games. Kenshi ($4 at 75%off), and Fallout New Vegas ($5 at 75% off).

My predicament is which one should I get, and why.

The reason I want Kenshi is because I've been watching this game for a while now and it seems like it has a ton of potential, and at the moment I think it would provide hours of entertainment. The reason I want Fallout NV is because I have Fallout 3 and love it, and I would love to see the mods in NV. Plus, I hear the story is great.

SO, if you say I should get one or the other, explain WHY I should get it, don't just say because it's awesome (I know one of you is going to say that now). I want to know what you think about the game, what the gameplay is like (this is more of a Kenshi question, FONV is similar to Fallout 3 with mods), and just anything you can tell me about it.

Now, if Kenshi doesn't go on sale like I fear it won't I will stick with Fallout NV and vice versa.

Thanks to everyone that answered me, I think I am going to go with Kenshi just because I can get Fallout New Vegas at any time, and Kenshi will only raise in price as it nears development. But thank you again to those that replied!

I think you should just buy Farming Simulator 2013 instead. It seems to be a very reasonable move.

There is a lot of fun you can have with Farming Sim 2013. Especially multiplayer.

I'm pretty sure the 90% off coupon on Sniper: Ghost Warrior doesn't stack with other discounts

Anyway, I can't say much on either since I've played neither, but am now hoping to pick them both up if Kenshi goes on sale like that, though it seems doubtful to be 75% off without it even being in full-release (I didn't even realize it was on Steam Early Access). A lot of the mods for FONV seemed really cool and extensive, but Kenshi seems just cool altogether and slightly more unique.

You're right, it doesn't stack, I guess I'll get that now.

But yeah, what you are saying is the exact reason why I had to ask people. Kenshi looks unique and it looks like something that has great potential, and Fallout New Vegas is good, but I have a feeling it's like Fallout 3 with iron sights... This is why I'm leaning towards Kenshi...

Kenshi was far from finished last time I checked, so don't bother to get it now.

Yes, first time I played it, it was almost unplayable, a year later, I tried to walk outside of a town and got mauled by a group of 20 bandits because I couldn't understand what was happening.

And that's why I want it. The game isn't a game that levels with you, it doesn't throw simple crappy bandits at you here and there, it throws everything at you. At the start of the game, you can't do anything but lure bandits into guards and loot them later. I like that... It makes me feel as though if I want to do anything in this game, if I want to be important, I will need help. I need to hire as many people as I can, I need to train them with me, and I need a lot of money. And then, I can start on hungry bandits...

Yup, I couldnt get into it (probably because I'm pretty useless). It could be great, eventually, but it seems like there's a lot of work to be done first.

EDIT: Forgot to say about FO:NV... I loved it for the variety of factions, it made the choices at lot less clear cut when it came to "right and wrong". That being said, I only fell in love with this game recently, as the initial release was so buggy it made my game impossible to play (I couldnt kill enemies, they all just got KO'd and then got up behind me again as I walked away)

That is something that I think I would like about New Vegas is that the choices are clearly "This is right, this is wrong." I want it to be more of "What am I going to do here based on my character." The bugs in the game can be fixed with the unofficial patches like in every Bethesda game.

I understand it isn't finished, I've been watching it for months now. But, from what I've seen that is in it already, it seems like a game I would like to play.

the developing of kenshi is super slow (i think theres like one guy) but the game and ideas are really fun, every time i tried it some asshole clan comes out of nowhere and kills all my people :(

There are more people working on it, but he is the only programmer. He hired an art team, I think a sound guy and a few others. But from what I see, he doesn't like releasing small tiny patches here and there, he likes waiting months and then releasing really big updates.

It probably won't since it's an alpha indie game, but who knows, let's just not get our hopes up.

Kenshi was in the first Indie Fort Bundle on GamersGate. So already picked it up on the cheap. (And the key from this bundle will now activate on Steam)
A Steam Sale wouldn't be out of the question.

I'd stick with FNV. I've recently won Kenshi and I have been reading up on it since last night. Apparently the devs update gruesomely slow.

Edit: Plus, FNV has tons of cool mods you can use.

Well, the thing about Kenshi is that the developer is the only programmer... And he doesn't like releasing small tiny updates, he likes really big ones even though they take months to complete. He also forgets to update news and such because he is working on it.

Yeah I heard about that. But still, I don't like playing a game and then not be able to play more of it, because I have to wait 4 months for an update. I guess you'll have to balance out if you want to play a complete game or a non-complete game that will take years probably to complete.

Yeah, that's my dilemma here... But, unfortunately, I realized that if I get Thief and Half-Life, I won'y be able to get New Vegas because I'm like $0.54 short... It sucks... And I can't add money to my account because my mother watches my checking account like a hawk... So I think I will pick up Kenshi unless I can add a little more later...

I have had kenshi for a couple years. The game is rather frustrating because of lack of things to do for a start. I would suggest picking up new Vegas over kenshi.

I bought Kenshi a year or two ago. When i played it last time it was pretty bold, but well there's only one man working on it. It has a lot of potential and i hope it'll become one of the more popular games in the future but it updates really slow because creator does all programing by himself. And last time i checked he hired a team of artist/model creators for the money he got from sales so they make good quality models for the game. The game for the last time i played had only fighting and outpost building but it was pretty fun to survive first months with a small group and then expand to a point were you have a lot of outposts and towns but then there was nothing more to do besides that and i don't know how it's now. But well the creator is working on Kenshi more than 7 years now and he lives from the profit so i don't think he'll stop updating it. I'm waiting for it to be finished someday ;D

Thanks for this reply... This is what I was looking for... I think I am leaning towards Kenshi more, but I may be able to add money to my account later and get both. But as it stands, I think I'll get Kenshi.

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting to do a straight lined job... I would've used graph/lined paper but I was at my grandmother's house and couldn't find it, so I used blank paper... I can read it just fine so it doesn't matter too much to me...

I was very suprised when playing Half life 2, I played it for the first time this year so I`m not one of those old times fanboys. The story and gameplay was suprisingly fun and for a game that old it holds up suprisingly well to games released in newer date.

Hands On - Kenshi

If you want to play an actual game, go with Fallout: NV. Or Mount and Blade. If you want to fund the development of a game that may never actually be finished, or fun when it is, buy Kenshi. There's nothing wrong with funding games and getting access to alphas, there's a lot of Kickstarters and other titles doing that. Just be clear on the distinction between the two. Personally I've had way more fun with Fallout NV (and it's mods) and Mount and Blade (and it's mods) than with the Kenshi alpha.

I have Mount and Blade (minus Warband), and I do like the idea of helping someone in the development of their game... But thanks for the feedback!
