I can think of a few items that I might grab if people were dropping like flies, but toilet paper is not one of them. I work in a local IGA (a supermarket, stands for Independant Grocers of Australia) and I work on the register (serving groceries and liquor). Our customer base is probably evenly split between those loading up on loo paper and those who want to know why there is a panic about the toilet paper. None of us knows - but my bosses are jubilant. Toilet paper is made in Australia and there is no shortage - so our store is selling the paper at full price and the manufacturers are just sending us extra deliveries. With just 70 cases confirmed Australia wide (our population is 25 million) it is not really a worry yet, surely.

Now my personal view of this virus is that it will become the new flu or common cold. The sooner I catch it the sooner I can get better. And if I have some groceries set aside ... home confinement sort of sounds a little like a holiday for me :)

So for those of you currently in lockdown, home confinement, or just at a loose end this weekend, maybe you can find your next new game in the list below

Am posting this and will deal with any flack tomorrow (should have been in bed hours ago)

Hope everyone stays safe and people try to relax a little over this virus. I know it can be dangerous to those with health issues and the elderly so hopefully the clever medical experts can create some sort of cure or effective treatment for it soon.

Obviously there's need for people to protect themselves from the amount of crap that flies around on this subject.

Not to mention that toilet paper can be used for constructing breathable masks that may (or may not) stop viruses from entering your mouth and nose. You've already ran out of masks, I'm sure, so toilet paper it is.

Gosh, they're absolute morons. If you had to self-quarantine for a couple of weeks, you'd only need a few extra things. Like if you buy a couple of cans of baked beans for example, buy a couple more. There's no need to buy a crateload as if you're going into a bunker for an entire year.

I would hate for there to be an actual emergency. I do think that people basically turn into animals in times like this and would basically kill each other out of pure selfishness if things got especially bad. Like a lion fighting over a carcass.

What's the point in buying up all the hand sanitiser and soap? You should be cleaning your hands anyway, so why would you need much more than what you already buy. I don't get it. If you go in and buy 10 bottles (you only need 1 unless you have a large family) then you're not really protecting yourself if your neighbour can't get hold of 1 bottle to wash his or her hands. In order for you to be safe, everyone else needs to be practicing good hygiene as well, not just you. It's pretty funny how people behave whenever there's any kind of lockdown.

During a snowstorm here a couple of years ago, people were buying up all the bread and milk in stores. They were only going to be locked in for a few days, yet, they bought cart fulls. Some stores had to ration it out because elderly people were the ones suffering from not being able to get hold of staple foods. You can be assured that most of that extra stuff went in the bin if it didn't go in the freezer once the snow melted less than a week later. It's not rational behaviour.

It will be the same here I fear. This morning it appears our normal grocery delivery did not include toilet paper, flour, pasta, rice and a few other things ....
At this rate if the government does not make rationing mandatory then some will go without and we may see people getting mugged for tins of spam :(
I don't really understand it, we do not yet have much more than 100 people Australia wide confirmed infected, yet as you said, they are acting like they must hoard food right now.

El bumperino because I forgot to enter any GAs last time I was here. The nerve!

So today my bro told me he'll bring any virus he might suffer from to the finance bureau since they always want half of anything he's got.

'tis but a joke, he's not actually spreading anything, hmkay?

We are getting to the stage where a lot of us will be spreading something - but it is nobody's fault. Just nature throwing us a curve ball.

Really practical. Quite a few doctors have said that soap and water is good enough for most of us, maybe leave the hand sanitizer to institutions like hospitals.
Not a bad effort at sky writing either - bet it reached more people in Sydney than most of their announcements on tv :)

Pretty much sums up what the health professionals say on tv so far. Old fashioned bar soap "removes" the germs and cleans the hands.A backup is an alcohol wipe/cleaner of somesort.

Agree, the trails are most likely toxic. But I assume all the cars we drive here cause more pollution than the pilot with his public warning in this instance.

I was actually just making a little fun of those chemtrail conspiracy guys, I guess the actual exausts are not a big deal for such a plane ;-)

Exactly - and it gets worse. Trump wants to cut payroll taxes and that will only benefit people who still have a job and/or can telecommute, ie professional and managerial classes. Meanwhile, their working class minions, who will get laid off by the droves for the duration, will see zero benefit from a nonexistent paycheck and have to wonder where the money for their next roll of toilet paper is coming from.

Obviously those people eat a lot of toilet paper, they're just getting some basic stock just in case.

You don't even need the toilet paper at home, after you are done what you do it's better to wash yourself, it's cleaner and more hygienic.

Masafor at the Pen & Paper Roleplay Evening... all of us got Corona :-D

Because of my chronic bowel inflamation i had toilet paper till the next century (a bit exaggerated) before they had nothing in the store.
So in this new century now i am a billionaire :-D (with at least 30 packs hoarded -they had 2 offers short before the outbreak-).

Best sort of Corona :)
And I too lucked out with the toilet paper - bought a 48 roll pack just the week before people started buying it in bulk. But today I went to the store where I worked and did a "panic buy" shop - little bit of pasta, noodles, cans of ham, spam (bit of a joke but I liked it when i was small), lots of canned vegetables. I have no idea if or when I will get sick but sort of wish I could get it over with. Am not that anxious yet but if a few weeks go by I think I might end up nervous.
I do not have a chronic condition (that I know of) but my age is getting up towards mid 60's. And my son showed me a feed indicating that they expect the elderly to be hardest hit. Apparently that is not what they are worrying about - they are worried about losing a third of the fit workforce and things grinding to a halt which will crash our already sinking economy (I guess if the old die, then sad, but apparently they are useless in this crisis :(
Stay safe Masafor-we are all in very strange territory, not sure what will happen next.
