Great idea, but unfortunately some people may be very easily recognizable just by their mannerism and way of writing.
Also, some people can provide info in their threads which may lead to revealing their identity (such as giveaways, signatures, etc).

This is outrageous. You're not supposed to actually listen to us. You're supposed to let us rant and rave to our hearts' content, but ultimately keep things as is in order to "improve the service" and "continue to be the number one platform for giving Steam games moving forward". Who's doing your PR? Oooh, you're going to feel this at the next shareholder meeting, I can tell you that.
...but seriously though, stay awesome.

Regarding the Edit.
Still give the "delete thread" option. But instead of nuking the thread,
change the title to
deleted (UjIiT)
the author to
anonymous/delted or any other dummy user you create for this purpose
remove the opening content
remove all comments from OP in this thread.

It's a shame, the change was great. Thanks to the mob for actively contributing to ruining privacy

I'll look into other options for allowing users to remove their personal data from discussions
I think he's saying that he's going to look for another way to protect personal data without having unintended destructive consequences on the site. Stay tuned. :)

Thank you, cg. I really appreciate the willingness to take in feedback and consider changes.
Off the top of my head, maybe instead of a "delete discussion" button, it's just an "anonymize discussion" button? It automatically changes the OP to "anonymous" with an anonymous icon/avatar, and deletes all comments by the OP. But the key is that the button doesn't become available until a certain amount of time passes from the creation of the thread, to avoid abuse and attempts to avoid accountability.
I honestly don't see why any of this is an issue anyway...I'm no expert, but I thought that GDPR had to do with personal data, which, while this includes posts on social networking content, those sites generally reflect your actual identity. The most your SG profile could reveal is your Steam profile, which users completely control how private and personally identifiable it is. And if users write their home address on an SG post, well, they can delete it-- and now permanently.

Ah, come on. The majority always has to screw up for the minority, doesn't it?
At least I was able to delete my useless threads before you reversed it.
How about an option to permanently delete discussions if they have 0 comments? Or if all the comments were made by you?

I literally just wipe the description and change the header. So not the end of the world. However it would be nice to be able to delete them for clutter sake especially if you make a lot of puzzle threads etc

Thanks for the update cg and reversing the decision. I thoroughly agree with this like a lot of people before me.

Hi again,
Another update just went live, giving everyone a little more control over their data. You'll notice a new "Delete Discussion" button, located in the dropdown menu on the right side of your discussions. If you click this new button, you'll see a popup that confirms whether or not you would like to proceed with the deletion. If you choose to delete your discussion, then the discussion, comments, poll, poll answers, and poll votes contained within will all be removed from the site and our database. Since the data is being permanently removed, you will not be able to undo or restore the information, so please be careful with deletes.
Enjoy your week!
Edit: Thanks for the feedback and opinions. Although a few people seemed to appreciate the change, the majority expressed a number of concerns. This change has been reversed, and I'll look into other options for allowing users to remove their personal data from discussions.
