Announcements

• Added a note to the main description to clarify my approach to backsolving on this event.
• Congratulations to onlytwin, the first to solve any puzzle (Flags of the World).
• 12 people have now completed the entire event.
• seNs has now gone on to be the first person to finish the entire event, by completing EVERYTHING. He reports that he backsolved 1 puzzle on FLAGS and 2 puzzles on FATHERS.
• snrd3r is now the second person to finish the entire event. He reports that he backsolved 2 on FLAGS and 3 on FATHERS.
• Beridok is now the third person to finish the entire event.nickchanger the fourth, monkey66 the fifth, metacom the sixth, Xartyx the seventh, OnlyTwin the eighth, dobeduck the ninth, and Ryzhehvost the tenth.
• The Fathers giveaways are now open. They all close at 23:59 GMT on 1 September, except for Pathfinder adventures, which due to an error closes at 23:04 on 1 September.
• Beridok very kindly, and without my asking for contributions in any way, donated 3 giveaways as bonus features for this event. They are attached to Father Time (which now has 6 giveaways). Beridok's giveaways end on 23 August at 10:59 am GMT. Thank you Beridok. Father Time is rapidly emerging as a favourite puzzle. It and Father Willam are the marmite puzzles of the event. You love them or you hate them.

Errata

• ComplexPrincess has also pointed out that there was also some ambiguity around one of the clues in World Travel, and that could affect the puzzle. The introductory text in World Travel has now been changed to fix that problem.
• PapaSmok pointed out that one of the flags in Flags of the World was just wrong. Sigh... it has now been fixed. Thank you PapaSmok. At the time that this was found, 7 people had successfully solved it, even with the error.
• Ryzhehvost (echoed by c0ba812 pointed out that I had made a typo in entering the answer in for Graphs so that it was not accepting the right answer. I fixed the typo (that was easy), but it also threw off the spelling required for the metapuzzle (which could have broken the whole event). Arrgghhh!. Fortunately, I found a way to fix it, but it did mean changing subtlely the meta. That will, of necessity, give an unwanted hint to anyone who has the ability to compare the old with the new metapuzzle, but it was my genuine screw up.
• TFrostPG (echoed by PapaSmok) noticed that the top left flag in World Travel was printed back to front. Ouch. I thank them for their vigilance, this has now been fixed. I should note that many people were able to solve despite the error.
• There was an error in the message after Of. I was trying to figure out why nobody had solved Our and it turns out that nobody could reach it. I have fixed the error in the jigidi text following Of. If you have already solved Of and do not wish to solve it again, then simply contact me by Steam message and I will give you the appropriate code for Our. I am so sorry.
• Beridok spotted an ambiguity in picture 7 on "Our". I have replaced it with a less ambiguous picture. The answer is unchanged.
• seNs identified that one entry in Father Confessor was out of order. It has been fixed.
• Ryzhehvost noted an error in the example for Father Guido Sarducci This has now been fixed.
• Clericust noted an error in the movie ID puzzle (Our). One of the films has a title of the form [A] & [B], but in my answers I only accepted [A] and [B] taking only the word "and" and not the ampersand symbol. This is despite the IMDB title having the ampersand. I have changed it to accept either the word or the symbol and I apologise to Clericust and anyone else who struggled with this one.
• Beridok found a serious flaw in a puzzle, which should not have been solvable with the flaw (even though it has previously been solved). It turned on a legal change that I had missed (and at least one previous solver had made the same mistake that I did). Nevertheless, the puzzle has been fixed now. My thanks and apologies to Beridok. I have deliberately avoided identifying the fixed puzzle.
• Monkey66 found a flaw in Father Time. It said that if a "letter is in the first half of the Alphabet (A-E)" then do some thing. But of course, the first half of the alphabet is A-M. Because the puzzle comes as a graphic image, it is surprisingly hard to swap the E for an M. So I have made a change to make it A-L, which is still not right, but which will allow the puzzle to be correctly solved. Sorry.
• Update to the previous erratum: I was completely wrong. Ryzhehvost proved that it really needed to be A-E, not the first half of the alphabet. I am changing it back. And I am really sorry, particularly to Ryzhehvost.
• GabbyGabe asked an important question. In Father Time given that according to the story, the puzzle was set prior to the introduction of the Gregorian calendar, should the Julian Calendar be used throughout. No. Sorry, the Gregorian calendar (what we use today) is used throughout. Sorry for any confusion.

Hints for Graphs

• One of the boxes in each graph seems different from the others. It is the one with the BLUE border. What could that refer to?
• This is a puzzle about flags. Somehow these things have to relate to flags.
• More blatant hint: These are colour adjacency graphs.

Hints for What we talk about when we talk about flags

• The text tells you that the attributes can be "read left to right, top to bottom". How many attributes are there? And how can you arrange them that they can be read this way.
• This is not a traditional binary code puzzle.
• Some people claim that they can't see this one, which is kind of appropriate.

Hints for Places in an Embarrassing State

• Assuming that you have identified the flags (and if you struggle with this I have some great flag ID sites in the references section of my magic guide), the flavourtext tells you "At times like this, it is important to think of what they might have in common." Look at the pairs that you have identified, you should see one thing in common immediately. If you look carefully, you can see another.
• A bit more blatant: The common thing does not have to do with the flags, but rather with the names of the identified places

Hints for Signalling

• This puzzle clearly involves nautical signal flags, and a way of signalling that uses flags and is often used at sea.
• The first item isn't merely an example, it also spells "EXAMPLE" or almost does

Hints for Many Exciting Things Await

• The initials in the title of this puzzle spell out META which should hint that this is a metapuzzle. That is to say, you will need the answers to the other puzzles in the round in order to solve this one. The title serves another purpose as well.
• You may have identified two different words using different methods. Neither of those words is the answer to the puzzle. But what you are looking for is a third word that goes with the other two to complete the puzzle.

Hints for Father Confessor

• Consider the 16th entry. There are no typos in this one.
• There are some clear differences between the various Christian denominations, where the Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Coptic, and Roman Catholic churches disagree on some of these. Remember the introductory text. I have always been Roman Catholic in my tastes. That should help remove some of the ambiguity around some that could have multiple answers.
• Consider the very beginnings of each of the clues.

Hints for Father William

• These verses appear to be taken from plays, but what plays are these taken from?
• The "But soft, what light through yonder window breaks..." speech is the opening of Romeo's speech at the start of the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet (Act II, Scene 2), but this version doesn't quite appear to be from Romeo and Juliet? Almost, but not quite.
• In the previous hint, it is off by a single letter. As are all of the plays. You do not need to identify which plays they all originally came from (though you can), but you will need to identify which play they could be off by one letter.

Hints for Father Brown

• The EXACT colours matter a lot in this one.

Hints for Father Christmas

• The first step, obviously enough, is to identify the correct gift for all the teams. After that, you will need to put them into the correct order. To do that, you will need the department names.
• The question reads "That does not look like a partridge in that pear tree. What the heck is that animal?", but you know, in a way the puzzle does look a bit like that.
• The numbers represent both an index and an ordering.

Hints for Father in Law

• It matters that he is an American lawyer.
  *Most of the cases that were defended should have been made illegal somewhere.

Hints for Father Time

• If you get NOWRONG, that means NO. You have gotten it WRONG.
• A leap year occurs when we add a leap day or intercalary day to the month of Feburary. We do this every year which can be evenly divided by 4. However, if the year can be evenly divided by 100, it is NOT a leap year, unless the year is also evenly divisible by 400. Then it is a leap year.
• Each action occurs whenever as as many times as that date/time combination occurs. Which of course means that if that date and time combination never occurs, then the action never takes place. Through history, some of these date/time combinations did not occur for various reasons.
