Why do you think Saber Interactive will release WWZ on steam?

View Results
The EGS is not monetarily profitable.
They want to reach a wider audience with their game.
No Steam No Buy

i think exclusivity was for orignal version so this doesnt count or smth changed.

Well, in theory it is the definitive version of the game with new maps and stuff.

so it doesn't include the earlier game on Steam.

It's an entirely new game, with different content. Your comment made it sound like it was old content + new content. Which it is not.

Therefore, not definitive edition on Steam.

It'll probably be definitive on Epic.

From what I've read, yes.
Edit: "Revealed as part of IGN Expo, World War Z: Aftermath includes everything from the World War Z: Game of the Year Edition, which recently surpassed 15 million players, but adds new characters, a new melee system, new undead creatures, and a new first-person mode. Additionally, Aftermath has been enhanced to take advantage of next-gen consoles, and will run at 4K/60FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X."

ah this is interesting. And very confusing.

So it seems like the Steam version will not include the WWZ GOTY content and just have the new Aftermath content (from its Steam page)
Nowhere on the Steam page is there any mention of WWZ GOTY or existing owners or upgrade options etc.

While the IGN article has confusing details about all the different variables (current/next gen, WWZ GOTY/WWZ Aftermath, editions/versions etc) :

  1. WWZ Aftermath will launch in 2021 for $39.99 for PC, PS4, XB1 (current gen)
  2. upgrade for WWZ original owners for $19.99
  3. Deluxe edition for $49.99 (+ $9.99 on base WWZ Aftermath) or $29.99 (+ $9.99 on base WWZ Aftermath) for existing owners
  4. Fully upgraded PS5, XB S|X versions will release next year 2022 as a free update for existing owners.

Now 4. has me going 'wtf' ? What is the fully upgraded version ? And how is it free, and who is it free for, keeping in mind all the different prices and editions mentioned ?

i would say its definitive edition, World War Z: Aftermath includes everything from the World War Z: Game of the Year Edition, so + new dlcs and it can be upgraded to aftermath, steam will have just 1 game without dlcs.

meaning the Steam version doesn't include the WWZ GOTY content ?

maybe definitive on Epic. Certainly doesn't look like there's any GOTY content or current/existing content for Steam. not even any other editions or upgrade options

not even any other editions or upgrade options

You're just overthinking it. There's no upgrade options on Steam as there's nothing to upgrade from. The upgrade options you mention earlier are for those who already own the game on other platforms/stores to allow them to add the new content to their existing purchase. If you're a new player/purchaser (which includes everyone on Steam) then you pay the $40 listed and get everything in a single purchase.

so what do you make of the 'fully upgraded next gen version coming early 2022 as a free upgrade' ?

Existing owners pay discounted $9.99 for Aftermath in 2021 which isn't next gen upgraded, but get next gen upgraded for free (after paying/upgrading to Aftermath) in 2022 ?

I may have finally figured it out. Thanks

'fully upgraded next gen version coming early 2022 as a free upgrade' ?

That relates to consoles. The retail version has been developed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the free upgrade is for enhanced compatibility with the Series X/S and PS. Console owners will still have to either purchase Aftermath or upgrade to it from their current version but will then get the next gen upgrade for free.

Looks more like one of those "remasters" (better graphics) for new consoles of the GOTY version + the new Aftermath DLC.

Unless you mean the gameplay, which is very similar to Left 4 Dead apart from no Tank and bigger hordes.

I mostly meant that L4D2 has a new campaign, change of characters that mean little, but added two spec i fected that shook up the game, viable melee and most importantly, has the full first game's campaign available :)

it still isn't very clear that the Steam version will include all the existing content.

They probably purposely didn't mention that WWZ Aftermath includes WWZ GOTY content only for the Epic Games platform.

It has been confirmed it contains the GOTY version + Aftermath DLC

Had me confused for a while with all the different editions and versions.

I may have finally cracked it.

So existing owners (EGS/current gen consoles) pay $19.99 for standard edition of Aftermath in 2021 which doesn't include enhanced next gen visuals, but get the next gen enhanced visuals for free in 2022.

New owners (all platforms) pay $39.99 for standard edition of Aftermath which includes all GOTY content, and get next gen update in 2022.

Well, Epic exclusivity agreement contains this, that would prevent other versions and similar games.

You could easily argue that this is "other version" of WWZ or substantially similar to WWZ.

The license granted in Section 1(a)(ii) of the Distribution Agreement is exclusive to Epic during
the Exclusivity Period set forth in this Addendum. Accordingly, during the Exclusivity Period,
Developer will not, and will not license or otherwise enable any third party to, distribute or grant
rights to the Application, any other version of the Application, or any application that is
substantially similar to the Application, on the personal computer platform.

They definitely want to expand their player base, no doubt about that. But it's mostly to try and sell some more copies of their game on the new consoles.

This one could stay as an epic "exclusive". Played it on game pass and it's horrible.

Opinions can differ, I have 500+ hours in the game. If you like Left 4 Dead you'll probably like this too, it's not as good and can get a bit repetitive (but so does L4D). It's a pretty solid co-op zombie shooter, it's nice to play a match here and there, I'd give it a solid 7/10, not amazing, but pretty fun.

Gotta agree, it feels like the genre has not advanced in any way, because this had the same elements as most L4D clones and added almost nothing new.
