Sorry for a little hijacking cg, but do you plan to plan to change faq-guidelines-punishment times' format? FAQ and guidelines only useful together, while the suspension lengths make it clearer how serious a rule-breaking is - did it occurred that it would (maybe) be beneficial to be summed up in one article?
Edit: obviously it's great, that rules got more accurate, and fitting the current situation of games, gleam etc. I didn't want to sound so offtopic :)

This is a very good suggestion. There's no clear separation that I can see between rules laid out through the FAQ and Guidelines. The latter is also interpreted by some as recommendations or best practices, rather than rules. It would probably be best to merge both into a page that clearly states "Site Rules".

In a way, I'm a bit saddened by the fact that I will probably miss out on some freebies because of this. But if that's what it takes to keep some sort of order in the forum, then so be it.

I'm used to getting most of my deals/freebies info from here. But that's just me being lazy...

I feel the same way, but on other side I already have plenty of freebies that I'll probably never play so it's not a big loss.
Also gleam turned into shit recently and even steam started to ban their links, and that gimme.one was just crap from the start. The good freebies (the ones that only ask to log in and click a captcha) are still accepted so some things will still get posted here.

Thanks to CG and all the staff for keep taking care of this community!

Well thank you very much. I feel as if this will clean up the discussions quite a bit and hope things keep in the positive direction. Keep doing the good work and never forget the positivity that is being brought into others' lives because of the site as a whole. The sticky is a pretty neat feature - I personally wish it was used for all updates or insights in the future. I humbly suggest that, if possible, the guidelines be a bit more visible, as currently the easiest way to get to them is via. the side dash after clicking on the F.A.Q., which seems to be difficult to the novice user those in most need of guidance, as well as the bundle game list being more accessible to the general user-base; perhaps a dedicated button, or a link posted in the F.A.Q. opposed to being strewn about though various user-created threads and referenced by users, particularly when there is so much mis-information disseminated.

Thank you for the clarification on this topic boss man and thank you for the effort you tirelessly put into making this site awesome! :D

Thanks. Especially regarding those ones that feature "five actions" or such for a free game. Those are incredibly annoying.

I don't get it:
or primarily exist as a traffic source for users to perform an action for promotional, commercial, or monetary benefit.

" Such actions include but are not limited to clicking a referral link, liking a Facebook page, following a Twitter account, joining a Steam group, completing a survey, or making a donation."

well, even if you ignore the not active users.
most are here for the GA and skip the forums
however, the forum is another matter.
i agree with you that it is mostly and largely great fun and great place.
i would have left otherwise.
i will tell you this, there was a time where it was much more fun.
or i became old (SG old that is, cause real life age is irrelevant)

well, i tend to stay away from them for obvious reasons.

It wasn't even bad enough that Gleam wanted you to do all those actions, and invade your Twitter account. Half the time, after grabbing 10k-20k users' info for what was supposed to be a AAA game giveaway, the giveaway would be deleted with no game actually given at all.
Gleam should be nuked from orbit.

To clarify, could I still post something like this older post in the future? Do these (the music links) count as referral links?

posting stuff you like, or you made is not reflinks

Hi SG, a few updates to the guidelines page are below.
Before
After
There were a few questions on the forum recently about referrals, and whether the previous rule implied that referral codes needed to be removed from URLs, or whether pages being linked to were not allowed to contain any referral links in their content. It was originally intended to mean the former, that referral codes should be removed from URLs posted to the site, and the example now better illustrates that point.
The new guideline has been added to help reduce advertising in the community. Most of our users have seen links to Gleam and related sites, asking people to perform a wide variety of actions to win a game. Occasionally these sites are used by developers to promote their games, but more frequently we see them used by individuals asking others to like Facebook pages, follow Twitter accounts, and click referral links to receive a random Steam key from a bundle. We don't feel our community should be used as a platform to advertise and promote these pages, and for that reason we ask users not to share this type of content in the future.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment. Thanks.
