Ikea now uses brony meat? I gotta pick some of that stuff up!

What's wrong about being a fan of a cartoon show? =P
And horses used to be a man's fantasy, being a girl's fantasy is much more recent.

Animation is good, characters have well constructed personalities, there are also parts of the show which are more aimed at the older audience as with most childrens cartoons

Im told a bronie is an adult male that likes the new My Little Pony show.
Ive seen almost every episode - with my kids. There are alot of parts, specially pinkie pie that are aimed at an older audience.
This concept is not new. There are a ton of shows if you were to rewatch them from your youth you will pick up on things you never heard the first go around

Same, my son and daughter both love it; and I think it's charming for a kids show for sure!
Don't understand why people hate it to be honest.

How can a grown up man enjoy an animated cartoon aimed mainly at children? Boy, once you watch Batman: The Animated Series, a whole new world will open up for ya. Or Samurai Jack. Or Dexter's Laboratory. Or Courage, The Cowardly Dog.
But speaking of the show at hand, I love how everyone keeps saying it's aimed at little girls, even though Lauren Faust worked really hard to definitely not make it as sexist and bland as the old MLP... things (honestly, only saw one minute of some youtube video but that was one minute too long for me), and it generally feels like it's aimed at everyone, not just children. With today's braindead cartoons or Disney Channel child celebrity bullshit, it's a blessing, really.
Me, I didn't even care about it until I IMDB-searched some of the creators of my favourite shows like Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls or Dexter's Lab, and found out that most people are associated with this. So I gave it a watch, and while it's nowhere as good as the ones I listed, it's still pretty enjoyable. Anyways, I also got kinda bored by it recently, and I'm more interested in the creator's next work, which looks promising so far. Here's hoping it's about as good as I expect it :D It also has nothing to do with ponies so you might want to start with that, or one of the shows I listed above.

I've watched Dexter's Lab, when I was younger, it was alright. I didn't mean that adults can't enjoy an animated TV show, but when it is that colourful and... well... contains ponies, it seems a bit weird. As I said I genuinely have no idea what it is about, just posted this to start a discussion.
Comment has been collapsed.
Seems less like starting a discussion and more like trolling. If you have "no idea", then I recommend actually watching it, be it on youtube, netflix, or whatever outlet you have available and form an educated opinion rather than a popular assumption.
EDIT: Also, there is a vast difference between a bronies and general fans of the show, though popular view tends to miss that for the sake of causing more drama.

I've never watched MLP but I always really enjoyed Dexter's Lab, CatDog, Powerpuff Girls, Fairy Odd Parents, Ed, Edd & Eddy and a number of other great "kids" cartoons, starting from when I was about 15. I'll no doubt end up watching My Little Pony when my daughter's a bit older; good to know it has such a great pedigree! :)

I remember watching the old MLP as a kid. I am not saying I am a fan, but aren't you doing the same as most of us do with the current MLP? We watch one minute of it and decide it is "way too kindergarten" and that it is not for us.
So you can't really blame people from skipping the oppertunity to watch the current MLP.
Also, first impressions and all that.
Like you wrote, it isn't the first time adults enjoy childrens cartoons. The Animaniacs were aimed at children, but they used some adult dialogue and humor, which children would not pick up on.
And then we go on to first impressions:
I think the problem with MLP is how it looks. Cheerful, all the colors of the rainbow, the names, the animation style, the theme song, the character names, etc. It makes people want to turn away because they will automatically stamp it as "for little kids". Other cartoons, like Courage, the Animaniacs, Batman, Freakazoid and more, did not have the same overdosis of sugary-sweetness assaulting the senses just by looking at clips, hearing it and seeing the intro and theme song.
All the previous named cartoons just didn't give off the feel and look MLP gives. So it is easier for people to just sit down and watch, because they don't feel awkward or that it is too "kiddie" just from the initial impressions.

Well, yeah... thing is, you probably won't see me actually recommending MLP to a lot of people. Not unless they're into this kind of umm, for a lack of better words, let's call it "faggotry". I'm very much into that kind of stuff, as you can see, since I use a fairy name (and a TON of other fairy names on Jedi Academy), I usually roleplay as one, or as a gay person, and all that. I'm what you'd call an "internet drag queen", really, because I enjoy acting like this and because I love all these cutesy, sparkly and kiddy things. I would not really recommend the show to anyone who's not into this kind of stuff in the first place, even though it seems to appeal to a lot of those people anyway. There's a high chance you'll enjoy it regardless, but it's just not a good starting place I think. You're better off with the Powerpuff Girls, which is also cutesy and all, but it's also a lot darker, violent and ballsy than even some of the darker series like Batman from the nineties.
As for the old show bit that I've seen, what put me off mostly was the animation and the looks of the characters. They also acted kind of umm, "wooden" and cartoon-like, which can't be said about the new series. What I mean is I couldn't get any kind of characteristics through from them. But yeah, it was only one minute so maybe I'd like it more if I actually watched more of it. Thing is, I don't want to, really.

To be fair, I don't think you're really missing out on some sort of essential experience, for not watching the old MLP. Shows like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends left a much stronger impression on me. I really liked Firestar. I blame her for my mild Phoenix fan phase I went through (redhead, fire).
But I have to say, it seems that as kid, I generally veered more towards I suppose the fantastical spectrum without the cutsey stuff (Transformers was more my thing than Rainbow Brite, as example. Except for her horse).
I don't consider it "faggotry" to watch/like MLP though. If someone likes the cute and sparkly side of things, well, why not? To each their own.

like said probably 1000000 millions times since the show started, mlp started as a girls oriented show, but when the 4 generation was made, they show as made with making the show for the whole family, you know, by taking down a lot of the cheesy shit and adding some cool stuff.

I kept seeing it on the internet (gifs and macros and such) and when I found it that Lauren Faust of Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Children fame was in on it, I gave it a shot and liked it for all the reasons listed above/below based on your preferences. It helped that it's on Netflix.

"I don't understand why grown men watch animated shows about ponies.
Then again, I haven't watched a single episode"
Translation : I don't want to understand.
Seriously, I can't believe how many people say they don't understand but don't even try to just watch an episode or two.
I mean, they take time to make posts about it, argue with people about it, but don't want to take 20 minutes to watch an episode on Youtube ? I don't get it...
Beside, it's not about ponies, it's about a great show with interesting characters and stories.

I watched some clips, didn't see anything special, seems like a show directed at little kids to be honest, if you like it thats fine honestly(We all have out odd likes after all), I feel the hate from most stems from how the fans go on and on about it like its going to cure world hunger and bring peace to the world. Same goes for Dr.Who fans, they are equally as annoying, twilight fans, star trek fans, etc...its cool you guys like and enjoy something but when thats all people talk about or try to force people to like it...seems a bit much.

You're lucky, I would go as far as to say they are worse then bronies, I have actually had convos with people in which they said stuff like this. "Its not just a show, it can change the world for the better", "I'm going to make you watch it one day", etc...
I am not the only one who feels this way about the fans of that show, this quote explains my feelings well enough "I don’t hate Doctor Who. I just hate you. And by you, I mean that terrible few of you."
I literally had a couple people on my Facebook posting images, quotes, etc...every hour or so and yelling at people for making fun of the stuff on their posts. Or even saying "what is this" would set them off on an I love Who rant and why aren't you watching it. Its not all the fans, its the obsessive ones.

So in general the author hates tumblr yet he is stupid enough to repeatedly go on this site and get himself even more annoyed. What is more he is whining about things that I believe are normal in fandom (not for whovians only, all the fandoms including Harry Potter, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Vampire Diaries, Avengers and lots more) in meaning of fangirls (uncontrollable limb flailing, squealing and getting overly attached to their favourite characters/couples). Best remedy - stop looking for things that annoy you and ignore people getting too emotional about fictional characters. If you want to get rid of annoying Whovian send him a photo of a weeping angel, he should understand the suggestion.

The real truth about bronies is that bronies doesnt harm anyone, I have no idea why people try to offense bronie.
(because it's easy to say " YO LITTLE GURL WITH PONIES BETTER WATCH JERSEY SHORE YOU GURL DID I MENTION THAT PONIES IS FOR GURLS YOU GURL?", i guess.)

i used to watch the show, but then iunno, it felt too cheesy to me, but i still enjoy me some good ol crossovers or funny fanart (no those fan art that put the pony in front of the moon to make it look cute or whatever the hell they want to do) however with all the shitty sitcoms being made today its good to see something changed around these place, however as a matter of fact i cant stand a lot of othsd bronies, mostly because thye want me to talk about how cute this and that ponie is or if she wants to be my waifu, uuugh, it makes me have the shivers

"you´re dead if you only aim for kids" -disney
seriously, just because its for a certain demographic doesnt mean other people doing it is a taboo, videogames are aimed for dudes but still girls play it, some other shows like samurai jack and even gravity falls were also aimed for kids, but still lots of grow men watch it, its fun even mario (who judging by your picture, you must like it)is aimed for kids yet a lot of grown man play it (like you)

This. Hell, lots of Cartoon Network cartoons have a bunch of adult jokes thrown in.

Because the older generations were complete shit. Lauren Faust, who also made Powerpuff Girls and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends create the fourth generation Friendship is Magic specifically to break out of that sexist completely girly attitude of the older generations. FiM isn't all that bad if you give it a chance.

I don't watch it myself. Probably never will even give it a chance. However, I think that judging people by what they like is not only idiotic, but a poor attempt at trying to hide one's own insecurities. I believe firmly that if you enjoy something (listening to particular genres of music, watching certain television shows, playing certain types of games, etc.), then keep doing it. Anyone who attempts to make fun of others for doing what they enjoy are really just sad excuses of human life. It's not bothering you, so who cares?

I think one of reasons was that The Hub didnt banned the videos from youtube. The show was suposed to be a comercial for the girls, but instead they got a quality show, with good animation and music (Daniel is the man).
We also, for some reason, got good artist in the comunity with grat talen that latched to the show as a showcase for their ability.
And last, perhaps we were simply bored of violence and wanted something diferent. I got intro Bronydom because i was working on my thesis and was stressed, like really, really stressed, then i discovered ponies and every chapter left me with a smile on the face, simple as that.

I think the only think that bothers me about Bronies is that it's okay to like something, even to love it, but when it becomes your entire life there is a problem.
There are a lot of things I enjoy, even shows I never miss an episode of but I wouldn't allow it to become my only focus point in life but it happens. With Bronies, and Harry Potter and Twilight.
Everyone loves a new 'trend' and although there may be a lot of real 'Bronies' out there, there are also a ton of annoying people who latch onto it because it's 'cool'.
Comment has been collapsed.
In every fandom, there is always the extreme, the annoying, the know-it-all, the canon obsesed, the dirty, etc.... but it seems like we get the best of the fandom, and the absolutely worst of it, at the same time.
Comment has been collapsed.
Whoa saying fans of those series latch on to it with their lives is a totally inaccurate generalisation of entire fandoms. I'm a fan of Harry Potter, how couldn't I be? It's what I grew up with. I can sit down and read the books over and over again and have a marathon of the movies. Do I base my life around it? Fuck no. I'd imagine that the same goes for bronies. Just because a fandom is large and active on the internet doesn't mean that they base their lives around the centerpiece of that fandom. We spend time on here discussing video games and such. Do you base your life around video games? I'm willing to bet that you don't and that they're just a hobby, something that you enjoy and therefore something that you enjoy talking about with others who also share that interest.

If you reread my post, you'll see i never said ALL bronies. As i said, all trends get followers who make what they follow their life.
All fan groups have their OTT followers and at no point did I say every brony does this or does that but the people who do, can more often than not, ruin the thing for others.
No-one wants something forced in their face at every opportunity, and to be honest, people who base their life off of one thing, people who choose one thing to define them, in my eyes, are shallow.
I have nothing against Bronies, only person who I see to have unhealthy obsessions with ANYTHING.

It's a fad. There are tons, upon tons upon tons of shows like this. Why does this particular one have such a huge fanbase and people are that proud to proclaim themselfs as brony's?It certainly isn't because it's the greatest cartoon on any criteria that's for sure. The word your looking for is:A-t-t-e-n-t-i-o-n.I know people who havent watched 5 minutes of "it" and still put on an a brony avatar on their account on every site.Because they like the attention both posstive and negative.

Im a brony but there are some that take it too far and give the a community a bad reputation .

You know what, I don't even care about any argument anyone will use against me. Bronies are creepy as fuck. Grown men obsessed with My Little Pony. You're rapists in my eyes. That's how disgusting I find it. That is all.

I like MLP, but I wouldn't define myself as a brony. I agree with most of what has been said here: brony culture is very very creepy.
I have MLP avatars (just like right now), but I ocassionally change it. I also like Adventure Time a lot, but I don't go around "clopping" on some Marceline rule 34...

Then again, I haven't watched a single episode and might be missing something.
