from the system I use the favourite and hidden tag. besides I add the genre and year tag.

I created a bunch of genre categories (ARPG, Adventure, 4X, etc.).
I created a bunch of franchise categories (Batman, Civilization, etc.)
I created some other useful categories (Over-the-shoulder controller games, Experimental games)
I created some gameplay element categories (Dragons, Space, Zombies, etc.)
Over several months I added each game to all the categories it fits into.
Then I hid a few hundred games that sucked (bundle trash, early wins here before I started discriminating, games I was wrong about, etc.)
I put in favorites only the games I go back to year after year.
I created a Games I Want to Play category as kind of an on-deck list. It's where I look first if I want to try something new.
I created a Games I Do Not Want To Play category. (What's the difference between this and the Hidden category? You got me.)
Now I usually add new games into their categories at a pace a bit slower than the pace I acquire new games.

Several generic categories (action/adventure, RPG, racing and so on) and the special one called Shit for the various garbage games, beta versions, and tests.

I order them by release date. I also have seperate categories for games I got in Steam Sales, just to keep track what I played or not.

I use favorites to put games I'm currently playing, and a few games that I've played but I'm not quite done with. I have a category called "Finished" where I put games that I have played and do not intend to play again. I have a "Backlog Short List" category of games that get priority when I start a new game. I also categorize games by bundle if I got them in a bundle (Humble Bundle, etc.). I started doing this because I would forget which bundle I got the game it. I also have a "Kickstarter" category of games that I backed on Kickstarter (and Fig, so I should change its name), as well as a Steam Gifts category of games I won here.
The only "Genre" category I have is for games that have local/split-screen multiplayer.

Basically I sort all my games in 2 categories Played/Unplayed and 3 subcategories Great/Mediocre and Complete Crap. Then there are additional groups for "Won on Steamgifts" which have a higher priority to be played and "Removed" games that sit in my library indefinitely because they don't count.

For me:
I have about 5 to 10 each in both the "Want to play" and "Maybe to play", 50ish in the "Good Games/Times/Memories" and the rest in "Gone"
Plus Favorites to shortlist games for local multiplayer via TV & Steam Big Screen

I set it up to mirror my BLAEO settings
'Cleared!' / 'Finished!' / 'Favorites!' / 'Incomplete!' / 'To Revisit!'
Games I still have to play are in my standard 'games' folder, which is the one that's always open. It lets me narrow down my 'hmmm what still to play...' perusal when it comes time to pick a new game.

I've got a couple of basic categories (Action & Beat 'em Up, Adventure, RPG, HOG, Stealth, Sandbox etc.) plus "Highlights" and "Garbage" for games I especially loved or especially hated.
Used to have a "Play Next" category too, but that one ended up to be just for all the games I bought lol.
By the way, I wish Steam had a better way to manage your library categories :/ As it is now, it's a pain in the back if you need to change something.

I have favorites and a category first to play to work on games i want to complete, and then there is chaos, and tbh there is chaos in general

Meh, everyone having fancy categories, and here i am, sitting with just... one :&
Are you guys actually playing all those games, or just keep them installed?

I put everything in to rough genres. If a category gets too big I try to split it up, for example RPG becomes Action RPG and Turn-Based RPG. If I have a lot of games from one developer then I put all of their games in that category instead regardless of genre. I use BLAEO to keep track of games I have completed or beaten. Favourites is for games I would play again even if I've completed them.

I have a small favorites bin for stuff that I'm currently playing or play on a regular basis.
My other categories have been by genre to aid in picking what I might want to play next without staying in the same genre, and complementary categories for what is local or multiplayer as well as what is kid friendly...
...until I ran "Clear Download Cache" and blew away all the game categories I had made - WTF Valve!

I want to know how people sort their Steam games in the Steam Client, no how to do it. Right now I have 200 games and I put the installed games in "Favorites", created a category called "Good Games" for exactly what I consider good games. I have a "Crap" category and the games that not match Good nor Crap category are in "Games".
How do you all do it? I'm curious because I'm sure people are more neat and clean for these things than me lol
