I am not sure if I understand how tags work here. I couldn't find anything on forums (I didn't dig too much though) and in FAQ section. Can someone explain?

Can I someone see if you tag them?

Is it considered to be bad or good?

What are they used for?

are tags even helpful?

Tags are a feature of SG+ Addon that gives you the opportunity to set tags on every user on SG. Only you can read them. I use them to mark idiots :P

Lemme guess, Mduh's thread spawned this question. :P Anyways, SG+ Addon is what allows you to tag users. The reason people want to tag users is to make personal notes about users.

Actually I wanted to tag one awesome user who has some nice private giveaways and I would like to get to his profile without need to copy link or memorize his screen name (or whatever it's called)...

It doesn't work like that. You'd still need to know his username to go to his profile directly (although you can go to SG+ settings to see who you have tagged already). The tag is there just to mark them out and can only be seen by you.

Also, you wouldn't be able to see and enter his private giveaways unless he shares the link with you personally or in a forum thread anyways.
