Cool if you are a girl
it either 780Ti, 980 or wait for 980Ti now.
should avoid AMD products had bad drivers before and a lot of CTD.

Still good and nice PC, you will need dedicated GPU for high requirement games sooner or later.
although not cool then.

Yeah I'm holding back on getting a pc, the 970 isn't too convincing after the 3.5gb fiasco and all but the 980 costs almost twice as much lol (although looks more futureproof).
I'm afraid that the AMD 3xx series will be power-hungry ultra loud beasts emitting tons of heat... :C

There's no such thing as a waste for gaming at 1080P....when will people finally understand that?
What isn't used today will be used tomorrow.

up to a certain point :p
Right now the 980 is around 600€, with the same money I can buy a good gpu that maxes out games in 1080p now and replace it with another 300€ one in a few years. Yeah in the end I'll spend the same but the newer card will be more efficent, more powerful and maybe with new features :o

I'm more about keeping my hardware for a long time. Every GPU I've personally owned ended up outdated technology wise rather than being unable to produce any sort of decent FPS.
X850XT couldn't do Pixel Shader 3 for games like Assassin's Creed
GTX260 can't handle DX11 only games due to lack of Pixel Shader 4.5
I now have a 780.
Everyone said go for the 770 but when it comes to games like Shadow of Mordor the 780 is already providing to be the better choice. So really it's daft to buy a GPU based on performance today without thinking about tomorrow. That is of course if you have anywhere near the money.

I do keep my hardware for a long time as well, but in this case it's not worth the money, the card in the meantime can fail and if it does (happened twice to me) you'll end up wasting money and the examples you wrote show the point, they can't handle them for just little details, but still they can't handle the new features.
You have to choose the so called sweetspot, can't overpay something that you won't need. I do buy things looking for futureproofness that's why I'm not really considering a 970.
It's like buying a 12 core processor paying it 5000€ so you won't have to upgrade in 5 years. :I
If you have that much money to "invest" that's fine but I won't go that overkill ^^

Well yes but whatever was right behind those cards was pathetically weak before those cards became unusable (which took 5 years). For those 5 years gaming was mostly superb and much better than it would have been with a slightly weaker card. The X800XT and the 9800GTX+/GTS250 faded from view long before my X850XT and GTX260 did.
And the 980 is by no means overkill along the lines of a 16 core processor. With a GTX690 or a Titan/Z you'd have a point, but the 980 isn't that crazy expensive.
Then again my local currency skews everything as we pay much more for everything anyways so even 760 is stupdily overpriced VS overseas.

980 is overpriced. only 5-15% more performance than a 970, but costs 40% more. 970 is definitely the way to go (and before you say anything: the 3.5GB thing is absolutely no problem in today's games...).

there is no stutter in 99% of the cases. i personally didn't experience any problems at all, and i bought most new games of the last 6 months. of course the websites try to force problems whereever they can, so they can post an article about the famous 3.5GB problem... ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
It didn't became a problem for a reason, the problem was that Nvidia didn't tell clients about how the architecture works, but if you are a reasonable gamer (you play in under 4K resolution, because even with 4 GB you wouldn't really could on this card with a reasonable framerate) it's still the best card for a price.

the only problem is that people don't like getting lied to. and the internet loves to complain. that's all. our daily gamer life is not really affected by it.

if the 3.5GB thing weren't a problem in today's games then there wouldn't have been that many complaints now, would there? Fact of the matter is that you can use that much VRAM, and a whole lot more and that situation will only get worse so it is a problem. Unless of course you're happy gaming at medium settings on a powerhouse card.
5.-15% more performance is 30-40% more performance tomorrow when everything performs 30% worse.

uhm, are you new to the internet? ;) people always like to complain about everything. the main complaint is that nvidia lied to their customers. if they had marketed the 970 as a 3.5GB card, i am sure it would have sold just as well, and everybody would have been fine with it.
fact is, that most games don't come close even to use up that much memory at 1080p. yes, there are a few exceptions. but some of them use even more than 4GB, so the 980 also is not sufficient. look at extreme examples like shadow of mordor with the ultra texture pack. as i recall, this game can consume 6+ GB. there is no graphics card right now, that can offer that much memory, except the Titan (which ironically is slower than a 980, and even a 970). and when the time comes when most games need significantly more memory than today, the 980 will also have nearly as many problems as the 970. we are not talking about a big difference in memory here between those 2 cards. it's not like if you compare 2 to 3 or 4GB. it's just 3.5 to 4GB. that is actually not much.
i personally do it like this: i buy a new card every year. this time i didn't invest 500-600€ for the 980, i invested 300€ for the 970. this gave me a 50% performance boost and doubled the amount of VRAM (compared to my old 770). i was able to sell the 770 for 180€. next time i will buy the newest equivalent card and sell my 970. so i get basically the performance of a 980 (i overclocked the card, which actually gives me exactly that performance), i spend less money, and i get an upgrade of VRAM faster than people, who buy a 980 and intend to use it for 2-3 years. because in 2-3 years the 980 owners probably have to set textures to medium in most games. i can crank everything up right now (except for those very few exceptions like shadow of mordor with ultra high-res textures - as i said, same goes for the 980 aswell).

bonus points for building it yourself instead of buying a pre-assembled pc.
that's even the same cpu cooler I've built into mine :D
However, I was so stupid and put on the cpu cooler before installing the power supply, so I had to take the cooler off and put it on again.
that was annoying afte all the preparation and precautions ... I was even wearing an Antistatic wrist strap :D

looks rad!
love the motherboard :)

Looks at his craptop. Starts crying like a little girl.
Nice build though, I'll buy a bit cheaper one with i5-4690K and R9 290X or GTX 970. And yes, I'll wait for the AMD's new GPUs too, just to see if they're good and affordable :P
Also, sorry for off topic, but what is the best GPU I could got for ~400€? :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yupyup I could have taken an i5, the price difference was around 80-90€ (around 250€ for the i5 and 334€ for i7) but I'll keep the pc for a long time and I need the extra power :D
Best gpu? With 400€ you can take pretty much anything you like or a gtx 970 (even wth the 3.5+0.5 gb thing) or a 290x, but I'd wait for the new amd gpus in any case. The new 380x will be a rebranded 290x so they'll probably drop in price even more and if the new 390x will be as powerful as they claim it could be a best buy. :3

After p4 even core 2 duo is a beast, with i7 - fasten your seatbelts.

Well arent you lucky :[ well have fun. Not sure about you but living 2 years without a pc, i would die happy if i had a sister with a laptop i could borrow from, instead i have a sister who borrows the phone from me who i am borrowing from my mother.....so, doesnt sound like you apreciate what you have, a sister who gives you her laptop but, oh well... building a pc... hell of a difficult job, good luck i guess :/ ....

Well you're correct still she didn't give me her notebook, I can use it when she's not on :)
Anyway I'm not claiming it's a hard job and I even saved up a lot to be able to buy it, I do appreciate what I have, I always think 10 times before doing a purchase :3

Finally the last piece of my pc arrived! No more borrowing my sister's laptop :D
Nw the tricky part is assembling it °_°
Switching from a pentium 4 to an I7 will be a blast XD
But buddy where's the graphic card? I have yet to buy it for 2 main reasons:
1) No more money :c
2) Waiting for AMD to show their new gpu series
Here's a link to a gallery with some pictures I took, I'll update with more images later :D
