Hello,

I have a question that is suddenly nagging me - because we had a host locking the ip at work and that despite not being my doing, I was blocked too - after more than a year here.

I'm checking steamgifts from my house and from work.

And while at home, only me is connecting to internet, here, at work, other people could have a SG account and by logging here, have the same IP as me.

So my question is: should I warn the team about that? Or do I risk a ban if someone else logged on SG from work? I know that I could ask an unban after but I would prefer avoid that situation if there is a IP/account whitelisting in that case.

Thanks for your answers that I'll read at home :)

And because I'm nice: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/MVLjD/in-space

Yeah, you should warn them.

i had the same problem when i was new here. a colleague showed me SG, we both used it and both got suspended. don't remember for how long. i just checked my very first support ticket regarding this. the only answer i got was that i should change the ticket priority to normal. did that. no more responses after that. ^^

although it might be that they unbanned me before time. can't remember.

my colleague stopped using the site after a while, while i became a SG-junkie. so now i should be the only one at work visiting this site. so i can't tell if i could theoretically get into the same situation a second time, or if i was whitelisted.

If they really bind accounts to IP - that's sucks. In my country many people are connected to internet via NAT, which means that huge amounts of people have the same IP. Good thing is - I have a dedicated IP at home. And I hope there is no more SG users where I work...

Accounts cannot be tied to IP addresses, given the number of people behind proxies, firewalls and VPNs. But they should play a factor when it is assumed that someone is using multiple accounts.

accounts are not bound to a certain ip (would make no sense at all, since many people have a dynamic ip anyway), but 2 accounts using the same ip at the same time can get you in trouble. and it should be that way to prevent multiple accounts. as long as they listen to your explanation, if you got banned because of a colleague, that's kind of fine for me. at least i don't really see another way of doing it.
