Welcome to My Time at Portia, a 3D sandbox RPG adventure inspired by the beautiful aesthetic of Castle in the Sky and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. My Time at Portia features gameplay elements inspired by the likes of Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and the Animal Crossing series mixed with Dark Cloud 2 and Steambot Chronicles, while creating its own unique world set in the lush backdrop of what remains of an ancient civilization.

This campaign will last 40 days from October 16th until November 25th midnight Eastern Standard Time. All the payments will go through Paypal. The beta Steam keys will go out to backers around every 10 days during this extension run (10-26, 11-06, 11-16, 11-27) if your tier meets the criteria, once the key is send, it’d be very inconvenient to change the pledge, so please make sure your pledge if final before then.

Thank you! I'm interested in the game so once I get extra cash I'll definitely be a backer :3

I would be tempted, but Pathea Games are the people who made Planet Explorers, another kickstarted game that had potential but ended up being incredibly hollow and unpolished. With a more limited concept they might do better, but I don't feel like risking a second burn and another three years of waiting. :P

Here's hoping they prove my doubts to be wrong.

they admit it, the planet explorers was a mistake. they messed up the game and it's too late now to fix it. theyll need to redo making the game for that to happen. actually, people want more and couldn't be satisfied as it is right now.

Still. You burn someone, you can't just say "sorry" and expect them to forgive you at face value.

I agree. I bought into Planet Explorers a few years back and felt that it had tons of potential. It did get marginally better, but even playing co-op couldn't save it. It was such a messy ordeal that it felt as though they never had any clear direction and just developed it day to day. That and it's clunky and buggy to this day, haha.

It kind of put me off the plethora of unfinished survival exploration games that were popping up at the time. Though there are a few good looking ones presently, such as Subnautica (though it's a shame it'll never get co-op) and perhaps Ark. Just goes to show that waiting is better.

Yeah. I mean, I can be quite forgiving of a games flaws provided it gives you something to work with in return. Spore was especially super-hyped and as a creative sort I was fanatically waiting to get my hands on it. When it turned out to be hollow and lacking in core gameplay, it was a sour disappointment but the editors were at least a nice outlet.

Planet Explorers ended up playing like a bad MMO, consisting of mostly fetch quests in an unpopulated landscape. Even the progression of materials was weird, because you shot up through the basic wood, stone and bronze and then ended up at a bunch of progression walls, where you needed to complete missions that didn't scale properly to your point of progress, just to be able to buy the material scanners you needed. I remember one of them was to kill a big creature and bring its shell back, but all the materials (and vehicle weapons) I had access to didn't even chip its health bar a single blip (and that was with deliberately harvesting stuff to make an APC with vehicle-mounted guns I thought were way ahead of the curve). I was optimistic about the editors but they ended up being painfully clunky to work with too. I can at least appreciate how the editors turned out like that, given how they try to deal with advanced voxel stuff, but the mission progression at the very least is a matter of balancing.

Early Access and Crowdfunding is a great tool, but a lot of groups lose motivation once the initial burst of purchases is over. Game development can be full of major issues that require refitting and rethinking, and it sucks that so many seem to lose hope or just give up. It's especially true of games with multiplayer focus, because the early access folk play before all the content is in place, then get bored and plan to return later (which gives the illusion that nobody is playing and the game is dead on arrival to the later waves of joiners).

I still hope they prove our doubts wrong though

Sounds good. Can't afford to kickstart it but would if I could. Guess I'll keep an eye on it.

I tried the steam alpha but shift-to-run using up the limited daily stamina is a big no for me. There's so much they're doing that's really interesting, but also so much that I'm concerned is going a direction I'd find un-fun, rather than just unpolished.

ah right they've changed that in alpha 3.0+ (Closed Beta). Run and, Dodge will be separated from stamina bar. both will be using a really quick regenerative 'stamina' gauge.

Hm played the demo and it was pretty good, looking really nice. The fps however ._. and walking felt like one of those nightmares, trying really hard but barely moving... I'll stay with kickstarting Re:Legend, its cuter anyway :p
