Just because they asked for a photo of a CD key does not actually mean that the game was the cause of it, they simply do it to verify the accounts normally, and they will pick a random game. A similar situation happened with me with Nuclear Dawn from indieroyale, where they asked for photos of that, which naturally, I couldn't provide, and I immediately thought bad of indieroyale, but it turned out to be something else entirely. Keys are usually trustworthy though.

Well, there are certain cases where they just have to verify that they are speaking to the correct owner of the account anyway. For example, if someone else tries to claim your account somehow, or in my case, redeeming a gift from someone that had used credit card fraud to basically pay for the gift, which meant I was banned for a while.

Well I buy all AAA games as keys and give them away or trade them as well. Sometimes you can get problems with keys but the cheap price is worth it.

I suggest that after that happened you should only trust keys either from Steam/Valve itself or bundle keys.

Personally i have never had problems with CD keys. Neither on Steam nor anywhere else.
Always watch if there is a region restriction and, if not sure, ask the shop (and screen it, just in case you might need it).
These are the shops i use without any problem:
Generally: watch out with shops also selling gold for games. Many of them sell russian keys which are forbidden to use/activate if you don´t live there. (RPG services is not doing so, unless marked)
So yeah, no problem with CD keys. Saves lots of money!

Keys? Yes. Resellers, even very popular? HELL NO.
Even the biggest of them in Poland were selling Minecraft keys bought with stolen credit cards. Hundreds of people got banned. Sometimes they don't know, what they are really selling, but it's really not that fucking hard to think that it's suspicious, when the game can only be bought for official price and some random guys from Russia try to sell them for 1$ per key (Minecraft).

Ok a looooong time ago, like 1 or 2 years, my dad's friend bought a homefront cd key for steam, but not from steam. It was from here. He picked the steam cd key button and gave the extra cd key to me. A month or so later, steam banned my steam account and I had go on support. All they kept saying is "Show us a photo of the Game Case with the cd key showing." and I kept telling them I don't have one, and that it came from that site (link above). So I wasn't really trusting CD-Keys then, am I being paranoid or what? Give me your opinion about this story!
