Is this like an open beta testing or something? Or was my request to play accepted?

EDIT: I also have Dota 2 Test in my library.

Did you fill that survey?

Yes. I didn't think I'd be accepted though. I'm wondering if everyone got it or if I just got it.

Yeah, you were accepted. They just take some months to invite. ^^

With that Dota 2 Test, I believe its just where you can test new heroes/items etc out, before they are released, Im not sure.

I'm with you on that - got the actual game some time ago and played it for a short while - not really my cup of tea...

I signed up, played like two matches, and went back to Super Monday Night Combat.

You couldn't gift it even if you didn't install it. If you got it from the survey, it's tied to your account.

It's the spectator mode, you will only be able to watch.

If it was the spectator client, they wouldn't see Dota 2 Test in their library.

nope. Its real deal. I had spectator mode once. Uninstalled it. This is DOTA2 .. I got an email from steam saying so

I got mine, but I don't remember when I got it. Time to download it and just fail at it.

Meh because i'm going to suck at it for awhile, and I did the first game. Got a long ways to go (and yes, I know it will be tough to try out a new dota).

I got my invite this week too, but did anyone else actually get a giftable, but not tradable copy of Dota2 in their inventory as well?

Permalink

They stopped giving giftable copies a few months ago. As far as I know, only way to get a giftable copy of dota 2 now is to get it from playdota or buy that package.

O_o Maybe I never check my inventory, but it is sitting there staring at me..... I think it sees that I also have Smite installed on my computer, that or it is mad that I already have the game and can't use the gift.

Enjoy it, it's a great game.
I'm playing it since I got my beta invite a year ago and from time to time I'm still baffled about the amazing amount of neat details and polishing that Valve is putting in it.

Care to elaborate? I'm just curious. It has been sitting in my library for months now and the negative ARTS(I'm am not referring the genre to that other, retarded acronym!) community is the only thing keeping me back. I'd probably play it if some aspects of it really piqued my interest.

Well, there isn't that much to elaborate, really. In short, the game is simply a gem.

I'm quite new to the ARTS/MOBA genre, but the gameplay is fun and once you get into the mechanics can also become highly addictive.
What really makes this DOTA 2 shine above all competitors, anyway, it's the stunning production value in pretty much any detail.

Amazing graphics and art direction, a clean look that makes everything very easy to "read" even during the action, superlative models and animations, top quality voice acting with hundreds of lines and specific contextual responses (i.e. you kill an enemy hero and your character make some joke about his relationship with him), a lot of good humor and an impressive online infrastructure/interface, with any sort of option going from casual matchmaking to full support for e-sport features.
Also, neat options like a spectator mode with tons of real time statistics, options to pick between many different broadcaster/commentators, options to save/download replays or trace them just using the appropriate match ID, etc.

Yeah, the community can be a bit harsh at times, but with the commend/report options and many other incentives/deterrents coming Valve is doing a great job to keep assholes in line.
Personally, I started playing many games against bots just for practice (you can play them in solo or co-op) and when I felt somehow ready I started playing with some friends online against actual players.

Oh and about bots... it's ironic how this game shows some of the most impressive and complex A.I. behavior I ever seen in any game, despise "bot games" being widely considered just a tool for newbie, largely ignored by any barely competent player.

DOTA 2 test is simply the client they use to test patches before uploading them "live" on the actual main client.
