Welcome to the Cozy Zone, the corner of SG dedicated to sharing and discussing cozy games. Get yourself a blanket, some hot chocolate or herbal tea, get comfy in your chair and enjoy the good vibes and the good gibs too.

I'm certain most of you are familiar with the concept of "cozy gaming/games" by now, but to avoid any confusion here are some excerpts I stole from articles written by people who are better with words than me, which should give you the idea:

These kinds of games encourage players to take things slow and enjoy the cozier things in life, which is why they've gained a reputation for being 'cozy games'. While there isn't an official definition for what a cozy game is exactly, those that do fall under this categorization have a particular vibe that is easy to spot. Typically, a cozy game will be laid back, have minimal, if any, combat, an endearing art style, and will wrap its action around a wholesome story.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whether the ideal cozy game consists of task-based satisfaction or getting to project personal feelings onto a melancholy storyline, there are options suitable to gamers of all backgrounds. The genre is very flexible, populated with RPGs, platformers, point-and-click adventures, life sims, and much more. These are the games to play after a long day of work, on rainy days, and when you just don't feel like crawling out of bed.`
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The core idea behind [cozy gaming] is the combination of appealing colors, atmospheric music, and playability. In addition, a game should also be fun and relaxing, contributing to the experience that can be referred to as cozy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cozy games are predominantly identified by the comfortable atmosphere, aesthetically pleasing design, and task-focused gameplay. Cozy games are not always easy or relaxing, though they can be.

With that out of the way and skipping the whole "in these hard times we all need more cozy time in our lives" preamble (heh), let's get straight to what the Cozy Zone is supposed to be about:

My giveaways of cozy games. To be honest (at first) I just needed a place for my next gibs, as it so happened that I was in possession of some amount of keys for this particular type of games, but instead of going with just another one-time train I decided to make it an ongoing thread. So for now the plan is to do GAs for this thread with games of the cozy kind on a somewhat regular basis.

Your giveaways of cozy games. Everyone is welcome to join me in making GAs for games that fit the theme. No strict guidelines, use your own discretion when deciding if the game is good for this thread. In general, fitting games usually have one or more of these tags on Steam: Relaxing / Family Friendly / Cozy / Wholesome / Cute / Comedy; and here are some tags that these games usually don't include: Violent / Gore / Survival / Psychological Horror / Hentai / Dark / War / Military / Dystopian (these are just some examples of some of the most popular tags). In any case, if a game seems cozy enough to you, feel free to give it away. Just make your GAs private (aka invite-only).
Special Cats tag exception: as a result of the FCDSCGC-2023 event, cats were proclaimed the mascot animal of our thread and thus any game that has a 'Cats' tag on Steam is allowed to be given away here, whether it's cozy or not.
Every active giveaway will be featured in the OP (if I'm around at the time it's running).

General discussion of cozy games. Random cozy games discoveries, thoughts on latest games you've played, discounts alerts and everything else related to games of the cozy kind.

Recommendations for cozy games. Do share your favorite games, well known or not. Hidden gems are especially welcome though, cause many niche games often go largely unnoticed.

Cozy events. So, events have become a semi-regular occurrence in our thread, and I'm looking to make them an integral part of the Cozy Zone experience moving forward. If you want to host an event in the thread which requires some coordination or have an idea for a future event, please contact me on Steam; otherwise, feel free to post your cozy trains, celebratory GAs, puzzles and whatnot at any time. You can also contribute by either partially or fully sponsoring the prize pool and/or by donating cozy games for events (as I might struggle to fully cover these prize/GAs-wise on my own, so some help is always appreciated; again, contact me for this).

If you wish to just bump the thread, feel free to so, but keep in mind that the recommended way to bump is the cozy way, which is achieved by posting:
♦ pics of your adorable pets ♦ pics of your cozy gaming space ♦ pics of anything cozy or cute ♦ light-hearted memes ♦ links to relaxing music (make sure to check out our own cozy playlist ♫ too) ♦

One rule in this thread: good vibes only, so please let's make it comfy for everyone and keep the negativity to the minimum.

Active giveaways

from Ellendyl Euro Truck Simulator 2 (lvl 2+)

✧ All event GAs added to the list, cozy cats collage added to the OP as well, since we've chosen cat to be our mascot for this year, hehe (if anyone has mad photoshop skills and wants to make a better collage from all the cat pics posted for the event, lmk. I had to use some online generator when I made it as I didn't have time and necessary skills to do it in PS myself, so it didn't turn out that great).
✧ Also, in case you missed it check out the cozy Spotify playlist put together by jesuswarjesus, feel free to contribute with some songs as well.

✦ And finally, to thank patch22 for thanking me for my efforts and their cozy train, here's a GA from me: Cloud Gardens (lvl 3+). Thanksception. 😎 The train and AndyFrost's current GA will put us above 100 cozy games given away in the thread, so I guess we could celebrate this too, hehe.

I loved the exploration. It reminded me a lot of a Short Hike, in all the good ways.
But more than that, taking photos was a blast. They made it both realistic and cartoonish, which was really cool.
All the locations are also really cute and it's very fun and relaxing just going around and figuring out what you need to take a picture of and for whom.

So my friends, I decided to give away a game that has only been mentioned once in this thread.
But to make it a little difficult, I will put a simple and difficult puzzle. It ends in 10 days, so that as many people as possible can take part, even those who think I don't want to.
As a hint I will give x=28. And you are free to give hints or whatever you want.
The code is: 9 20 23 6 D and I hope I didn't make a mistake.

You're not stupid and it's not about stupid or smart, it's about getting the proper mindset.
For puzzles like these, I recommend taking a quick look at Zelg's puzzle guide, it's a good primer for a lot of crypto found on SG and elsewhere.
It can help you get familiar with "basic" formats. Once you know how they look, it's easier to recognize them in puzzle threads.

By the way, I would like to apologize to those who were unable to participate. It wasn't the most appropriate thread to put a puzzle on. Anyway, the solution was: EpSb8.
In one of my last messages, I mention my reasoning.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with you here: this thread is as appropriate for puzzles as any other. I know why you think that way, as we spoke about it a little in private and I guess you didn't change your opinion, but I don't want anyone to be discouraged from posting their puzzles here thinking that it's somehow wrong, cause it's not. Casual puzzle solving imo is one of cozy activities, therefore it's welcomed here. And I say this as someone who generally doesn't like puzzles and skips most puzzle GAs haha.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The puzzles are made to prevent bots. We all agree on this and it is a good measure. But what if behind a powerful puzzle (I'm not referring to mine), there are people leaking the links? How can we prevent them? Considering that the admins do not take the necessary measures for this.
I thought that with my puzzle I could prevent them, instead I inadvertently prevented other members, increasing the chances of the leakers.
So I'm thinking of dramatically increasing the difficulty in my future puzzles, but in other threads, and using simple sgtools rules here.
Anyway, I'm still thinking about it and I'm open to new ideas. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The way I see it, there are to types of puzzles: the ones just to prevent bots and the ones that are made for fun. Tbh I thought your puzzle fell into the latter category and that you've made it just for fun and not just to prevent bots from entering, and I guess that where confusion comes from. I was strictly speaking about the fun puzzles when I said they're welcome here. As for the ones that are used as a bot prevention measure, honestly I'm not sure if any measure is necessary in the first place, as there were some GAs posted here without any protection at all and I don't remember them being overrun by bots lol. But otherwise I agree that puzzles aren't necessary for bot protection at all, as simply adding some letters and numbers to the GA code in your URL is supposedly effective enough.

❣ Catizens, we have (nearly simultaneously) reached two milestones: 100 cozy games given away and 1000 cozy comments posted in our thread. Can't say I expected the thread to last this long when I started it, but I sure am glad it did. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the CGC, and here's an obligatory celebratory GA. 🍰

And one more thing, which I completely forgot to announce in time: any game with a "Cats" Steam tag is now allowed to be given away in the thread, whether it's cozy or not. Just a small perk of cat being our thread's mascot as a result of your voting in FCDSCGC, heh. Not like there's many cat games out there that aren't cozy, but still. Oh and speaking of events, it might be a good idea to be taking and saving some cozy screenshots from any games you're playing, just in case. 😼

Anyway, good timing with Slime Rancher 2, cause after noticing it today on Gamepass I was wondering if I should try it now or wait until it's out of EA. Very interested in this game. How close to being finished it feels right now in your opinion?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well I would hope they are only a third in because we have 3 biomes at the moment. I have 28 hours on it now and I have been taking my sweet time. For reference, I put almost 90 hours on the first game. If you want the full experience I would say wait. At this point the game lacks content. But it's possible you'll be waiting for a long time as the game launched in september and this is the first update with one biome added...
But with game pass, you can have a taste right :-)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Eh, I think I'll wait until it's more complete then. I'm more or less aware how the game plays, so having a taste in a very unfinished state wouldn't do it for me haha. Hope it doesn't leave GP as soon as it's fully released though. 😃 The first one surprisingly isn't there...

I'm still trying to find a meditation that works for me but it's an interesting journey and Inward is actually relaxing just from a visual/audio point of view so I can recommend it just for that.

If you don't mind sharing, what's not working for you with the meditation so far? As for myself, sadly wouldn't be possible at all in my current real-life situation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Most of the methods I have tried are based on mindfullness, which is a way to train your mind to stay in the present moment and experience it rather than planning, problem-solving, worrying or general negative thinking.
My problem so far has been that I haven't found an efficient way to make it work for me. I start meditating, I get my breathing on, I let my mind wander and it goes right back to all the worrying, anxiety shit that's the exact opposite of what I'm trying to achieve.

I relax playing games. Or watching movies. But as soon as my mind is not otherwise occupied or distracted, it starts going down the dark path so I'm having a hard time with meditation in general because while I'm supposed to meditate, and "resting" my mind, I focus on thoughts I'd rather stay away from. (and let me tell you, that doesn't help me sleep either)

I'm not giving up though. I have been told other types of meditation like guided meditation or mantra meditation would be more efficient for me. I'll try that. I think the Inward dev plan on implementing more types of meditation than the current ones in the game, which I'm looking forward to.

JRPGs aren't my jam, usually, so I haven't looked into these. Congrats on the kitties!

A little belated reply (busy lately, so saving time by coming less to the forums haha), but I love Atelier games ^^
For me they're real cozy, but well, there's jrpg fighting to do, so if you're not into that...
You usually have deadlines for some quests, but if you take care of those early on in the month/trimester or whatever period's used, you generally have time to explore, get to know other characters better and so on ^^

Thanks. Still haven't decided whether I should pick up Atelier Ryza as my first one in series or not... 🤔 It's one of the cheaper ones and I like the visual style in it the most.

I haven't played that one myself, yet. I will one day I hope, but I've had good feedback from it, so I think it's a safe first try ^^

Which one's your favorite?

Hmm, the most recent I played (and it was some time back) is Atelier Rorona, and I quite like it :)
One I really farmed is Atelier Elkrone, but this one's got more otome game vibes and it's on PSP.

Oh, I'm nowhere near to be playing it yet. There's a general Steam backlog, then I have a Gamepass backlog and there's also a cozy games backlog already as well, plus the SG wins backlog that goes years back and which I've been slowly going through with the help of PAGYWOSG event, so it's probably gonna take a while before I get to it, haha. But I'll share my thoughts once I play it.

I've got a small pile of keys I'm working through. You just holler when there's an event and I'm sure to find something for ya.

Finally got Stardew Valley!
Now I'm going to have to play it to see if it's worth all the raving reviews. I have a feeling it will be though.

*Looks at my own account, sees Stardew Valley as the most played game and I haven't even beaten it yet"

Yup, you're in for a ride. Enjoy it :)

Nice, enjoy your time with the game. Can't say I'm very familiar with it myself, played it for a few hours years ago, but then decided to enhance the experience with mods (as I usually do), spent too much time carefully choosing and installing everything, but somehow ended up breaking my game and kinda ragequit and never played it again lol. Should give it another go, game's worth it.

Heh lesson learned: stay away from mods until I have played for a while. Good tip ;)
