Soo.. I made a couple give-aways today.

I had a couple keys laying around and decided to give them to people that can use it, since i already had those specific games.

Two of my keys turned out to be duplicates.

One giveaway i could resolve as i simply bought the game on a website and gave the winner the new code. He marked it now as recieved and we are both happy.

The second game was sadly a little more expenisve. (20 bucks).

I contacted the winner immediately (it took a while until he accepted my Friend-Request) and apologized for my mistake.

I checked his steam games (600+), and realized that i have 2 Giftable games in my inventory that he doesn't already own. (and one of it was on his wishlist)

One of those games is 19 Bucks, and the other 24 Bucks on Steam right now.

I sent him both as an apology. He immediately redeemed them, and then told me that he will nonetheless mark the gift as "Not recieved" in a week, and that i will be banned from steamgifts. What a nice guy.

Atleast he could have told me that before he redeemed the games that i sent him as an apology. lol

TLDR; Guy won $20 game, i fucked up with the key, sent him Games worth $43 Bucks instead as an apology He accepted it and figuratively spit in my Face.

I ain't saying i didn't deserve it.. but it sure feels like a d*ck move.

---------------EDIT:: Thanks everyone!

Winner agreed to delete the give-away and wrote it in the comments. I have now sent a support ticket.

Thank you guys for helping me out.. But now I am the one looking like a prick for creating this Thread. :/

I would have done the same as that guy. Why should he mark it as received and suffer a suspension when it was you who screwed up

Some people ...
That one occasion where I was among 3 other winners and the giver experienced some problems, everyone immediately agreed upon deleting the giveaway and support did just that. All without any alternative compensation or any suspension for anyone.

What do you mean? Would you take his games too? -_-

Well, he cannot mark that giveaway as received, otherwise he'll get suspended for non-activation.

He could agree to deleting the GA.

If he comments on the giveaway saying that he agrees for it to be deleted, you can open a support ticket afterwards.

Support needs proof that the winner agrees to deleting it (easist way is by him comment on the GA in question) and you have to file a ticket to support to delete it.

Yup, that's true.

There is nothing he can do. He has to mark it "not recieved" or you both can ask for deletion of the giveaway. He can't mark it as recieved because he will be breaking a rule then.

Aaah! my fault then once again. I may contact him again and ask him if he would agree to delete that give-away.

That is the best option if you are unable to provide the game.

why you would like to contact him to agree ? It is your Giveaway , so simply whisper the Support to delete it.
I wouldn't bother with that Guy more after he took 2 Games from you for nothing.
You paid your Lession and my advice is when you give better Games away - restrict those at higher lvl like lvl 5+.

It doesn't work like that. As long as your GA has not ended you can delete it whenever you want, no questions asked.
But once a GA has ended you need the permission of the winner to have it deleted.

well , i hadn't such a Issue but i would not like to talk to this guy again.
I would simply then let this so and let this guy mark it as not received.

Yea that's of course an option. Luckily I haven't been in a situation like that neither.

Support won't grant a deletion unless the winner agrees to it.
If the winner doesn't agree, the creator either has to supply a working copy of the game or take the not received.

You can also change the game that was given away to one of the gifts you sent him/her.

Nope. I'm too lazy to look for the support quote right now but only cg and maybe Rinarin can take care of those tickets so it will a) take very long to be adressed and b) that category is ment for when there is a mixup between 2 games with very similar names (like Dark Matter & Dark Matter. They might do it one time but they will tell you not to do it again because it can be easily exploited.

how about keep it on "Awaiting Feedback"?
(still waiting 11 months for 1 feedback)

Even though the winner is right technically (the winner shouldn't mark the giveaway as received if getting other games than the one the giveaway was for), that could have been handled a lot better. A decent person would have explained the situation (that you can't substitute for another game and mark as received without breaking SG rules) before taking other games. Just taking the games and then saying you're out of luck is not the best of behaviour in my opinion.

Hope the winner will at least let you delete the giveaway instead of insisting on getting one more game.

Just because I'm curious, what other games did you send?

shouldve traded the giftable games you had for a giftable copy of the one you needed. either way, kind of a dick move on his part, but really unless he agrees to delete the giveaway, he cant mark it recieved or he gets in trouble.

The better solution would have been contacting support and asking them to delete the giveaway if possible.

Should have jumped on barter.vg or a similar trading site and tried to get a key for the game in order to fulfill your obligation at minimal expense to yourself. Better than coping a ban/suspension.

It's actually REALLY REALLY disgusting, it's mean. Almost psychopatic behaviour.

I guess I'm very lucky, but I have never seen anything slightly similar (not talking about games here) in my environment EVER.
I can't help but imagine the "winner" being superhappy at home, thinking he got two games for free plus he is gonna fuck the GA creator.
