Realized that I want to buy GTA V, Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, Fallout 4 and Doom..

Then I realized what the hell am I thinking? I have 200+ games in my library, my backlog is massive and I have no time to even play games. I've made this mistake before shelling out money on steam sales and they are still sitting in my library.

Clear your backlogs first or buy new games? I am going to wait until prices drop even further and hopefully clean up my backlog a bit in the process.

I have a huge backlog. I don't like to buy steam sale games if I know I am not going to play it soon because steam sales happen often and I know I can usually get the game in the future for the same price or cheaper. With bundles, you never know if that game will be bundled again and the deals are usually too good to pass up so I buy them.

What a no-brainer! Of course buy more games, you can never have enough games! :D

Just buy that one AAA game that you instantly wanna play, then buy others during the next sale. I highly recommend Fallout 4!

Play whatever games are most enjoyable to you, that's the point of games afterall, no?
Just make sure to take the time to distinguish how much of your interest in a game is due to [AAA or new release] hype, else you'll get caught up in just buying new games without ever playing any of them meaningfully.

From a cost-effective viewpoint, don't buy any games [that you're not certain you won't immediately play] with lower than an 80% discount while you still have enjoyable games in backlog, or you'll likely see the game cheaper before you get around to playing it.

In the end, the real question becomes one of if you'll play most anything without too much concern (or simply don't want to spend too much money on gaming), or if you prefer to have a library with a good selection to fit any mood. There's nothing inherently wrong with buying an excessive amount of games, so long as you don't get caught up in the game that is game-collecting, at the expense of playing more substantial games. :P

Clearing backlog is cheaper, and will help to avoid the "too much choice" problem when deciding what to play next.

Buying new games is pretty much buying backlogs. Unless, of course, you clear new games faster than clearing backlogs.

I felt this way about Bookworm Adventures 2 because I only bought the first title.. and now it sits in my wishlist forever because I never suspected the game to be delisted

Honestly? I do both. Every day, I try out games until I find two that I'm not interested in playing more of immediately. But when I find a game I want in a bundle or on sale, or it's something that I just want immediately, I jump on it.

The trick is, don't buy a game unless it's a 75%+ discount or you're going to play it immediately. Otherwise, the price will probably drop again before you ever play it, and you'll regret the decision.

Clear your backlog, it's frustrating when you have too many games to play, you will spend more time deciding on what to play (or not play) than actually doing it.

People keep telling me "How can you not have played this yet?" "You must be the the only person that never played this.", "You don't know what you're missing.", etc. It gets really annoying.

I'm in a similar boat to you, I've only completed 68 games out of my total library (idling for cards screwed the statistics).
