I wanted to know what does the steamgift community think of dota 2,simple as that.

I found it pretty meh. maybe it's not the genre for me, but it seems like for new folks entering the fray, it doesn't seem to be very friendly. and it seems super repetitive since you just grind out those little dudes by the towers. but oh man, if you don't get your leveling skills on in the first few minutes, you've really lost it. it's like if you were in CoD and had to grind out Duck Hunt for half an hour before you could start killing other players.

so yeah, I didn't find it fun, though my buddy that's a LoL player really liked it, so to each their own.

Dota 2 is a great game if you are into MOBA games. I play both LoL and Dota 2. I find that after playing Dota 2, I got a lot better at LoL.

I think that LoL is a very simple game compared to Dota 2. I hate to compare the two games, because I don't think they have that much in common.

If you've never played a MOBA game before, you'll probably find Dota 2 to have a pretty steep learning curve. A lot of people talk about how the community is really negative, well there will always be those bad apples that spoils the game for everyone. Every game has those kinds of people. One way for you to avoid these conflicts is to play with friends. Not only does it make the game a lot more enjoyable, you guys can potentially get better as a team, too. :)

Oh well, I just posted about it in another thread, but given how it fits this thread even better I can recycle my replies here:

"it's a great game. I'm playing it since I got my beta invite a year ago and from time to time I'm still baffled about the amazing amount of neat details and polishing that Valve is putting in it."

and

"In short, the game is simply a gem.
I'm quite new to the ARTS/MOBA genre, but the gameplay is fun and once you get into the mechanics can also become highly addictive. What really makes this DOTA 2 shine above all competitors, anyway, it's the stunning production value in pretty much any detail.

Amazing graphics and art direction, a clean look that makes everything very easy to "read" even during the action, superlative models and animations, top quality voice acting with hundreds of lines and specific contextual responses (i.e. you kill an enemy hero and your character make some joke about his relationship with him), a lot of good humor and an impressive online infrastructure/interface, with any sort of option going from casual matchmaking to full support for e-sport features. Also, neat options like a spectator mode with tons of real time statistics, options to pick between many different broadcaster/commentators, options to save/download replays or trace them just using the appropriate match ID, etc.

Yeah, the community can be a bit harsh at times, but with the commend/report options and many other incentives/deterrents coming Valve is doing a great job to keep assholes in line. Personally, I started playing many games against bots just for practice (you can play them in solo or co-op) and when I felt somehow ready I started playing with some friends online against actual players.

Oh and about bots... it's ironic how this game shows some of the most impressive and complex A.I. behavior I ever seen in any game, despise "bot games" being widely considered just a tool for newbie, largely ignored by any barely competent player."

None should ignore the bots. Make a match and put the bots difficulty in unfair and good luck last hitting my friend.

Pros from me
1) im a hardcore fan of dota since 2004
2) dota 2 its awesome, better graphics, animations, voices etc all that crap
3) it's balanced!yet its still on beta still adding the heroes (Cant wait for abbadon and techies)
4) its worldwide known and make international tournaments and which you can join easy (if youre into that kind of thing)
5) it has HATS! and helmets and swords and ... :P
6) im not sure bout this one but i read it on the wiki they will be adding quests, not sure how its gonna work ,guess they will reward you exp for your profile or additional items drops
Cons
1) Every fucked up new player who comes HAVE TO , Have to play a tutorial at least 1-2 matches with bots its not an easy game and if you screw things up you got it ruined for all.
2) the community ofcourse and its not the friendliest ,i mean if you play a match for 1 hour and someone from your team takes a bad decision to farm alone as a support and not helping it will get the flame started.
3) many people (specially Russians) think dota is a solo game ,where they can pick a carry (yet you already got 1-2 carries on team) and do whatever the fuck he wants whenever he wants then blame it on the team.
4) players dont communicate with others as often as they should sometimes thats why its preferred to play with friends.

Anyone agrees with me? have something to add please do, or correct me if im wrong somewhere.

Totally agree. About the quest, I don't know what to expect, since they section is where the tutorial should be so, I think it is going to be something to learn to play. The community tends to harras noobs. I must confess that I do that, but only when the bastards don't even speak. I got no problem if you don't know how to play. It's okay for me. But don't play without communicating, it is a team game. I need to know that I can count of you if needed.

Having never played a MOBA before i can agree on that you need to play bots first and learn what the items/characters can can and can not do before attempting to play against people. Feeding the other team kills is the fastest way to loose the game and earn the rage of your team. ;)
