Is buying Borderlands 2 regular version worth it, or should I try to get some money to get the GOTY?

Well... I think it sucks without the max level increase.. but that's just me.

What if you buy Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 but not one. Would it still raise the cap to 72?

Nope. They both raise by eleven the max level. You need both to get 22 levels added.

Only 1, not the 2nd upgrade.

If you're going to play it a couple of times, beat the main story with your main character on each further difficulty and going to play with friends, go for the dlc, otherwise I say stay with the main game, there's plenty in it to do.

For single-player sure, why not.
For coop, nope.

You will be removed from the match, once your team enters a DLC region, which happens quite often on end game level.

This game is about having as much DLCs as you can. Without DLCs it sucks, so get GotY

If you are only going to play single player or with friends that know you don't have the dlcs you don't need them, game is fun without them.
If you are playing with randoms you'll get dropped every time they enter a dlc area.

The 4 Story DLCs are too good and the 2 other playable classes are fun too.

Get the GOTY now or regret it.
Getting the other stuff afterwards costs more as getting a goty version (again).

I made the same mistake...got the normal version first and got another GOTY later. Wasted one perfectly fine normal edition (and money).

I would go for the GOTY. It is fun without the DLCs, but buying them later will cost you much more than buying the GOTY right away.

Remark:
The Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 and the 5 Headhunter DLCs are not part of the GOTY.

GOTY is fun. Trust me, I spent more than 200 hour in this game :D Skin DLCs are useless, headhunter ones are short (as I heard - haven't bought) but the GOTY edition features the 4 story DLC, 2 new great characters, some visual fun, and the ultimate vault hunter pack 1. If you know you'll love this game or you just don't mind the plus expenses, Ultimate Vault hunter 2 also would be worthy to buy.
Quite a lots of players in the game, it's almost sure that you can find 2-3 players in their own game, and you can join. Or you just play and 2-3 players hop in, usually in less than 15 minutes. Game playeable and enjoyable alone, but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun with 4 people :D

Base game alone is fun. But then you can't just upgrade it for $5 to GOTY and it's not really worth it to spend first those $7 for base then another $10 for few DLCs when you could spend those $10 from the beginning. And then there's fact GOTY doesn't have all DLCs (it has most important, but not all), so you still would have to buy some more stuff to not see "content locked" info.

The vanilla game is good as is, but GOTY is well worth the price, if you can manage to find the funds. GOTY doesn't actually include all the DLCs as well, so that's something else to note too.

GoTY is a ton of content and is a great value (especially on sale), but the vanilla game still has a lot of game to be had. You're not going to feel like you're missing chunks of the game without the Season Pass (with the exception of the 5th class), but the expansions offer great content. Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep is fantastic and funny, with a lot of great references to other games and stories. Mr. Torque's expansion is pretty good, but all things with Mr. Torque are hilarious.

this might seem repetitive but some here are just stating opinions about the game. here are the facts
the game in it self is fun and worth it, DLC is just MORE. not the exact same but its just MORE.
2 Classes, if you wont play the original 4 classes i dont think you will play those. (opinion) they are hella FUN
4 Story DLC, extra missions and location with a story to keep you going, some new enemies and some repainted, extra guns. (opinion) JUST MORE IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU GOT
2 level cap upgrade, borderlands is a RPG shooter so you will replay the story to get extra levels and unlock more skills, its would be long to explain why is that needed for the fans
5 small story DLC, just more and more borderlands

tl;dr
if you love the game get DLC, friends with DLC help
if your not such a fan dont bother, i have 300 hour and some of my friends just got bored after 50-100 hour

I loved it and the extra content, but I still got bored after about 60 hours. A game would have to be something truly special for me to play anywhere near 100 hours.

online games and RPG normally take more than 100 hours.
and in borderlands case, your first 60 levels are just training. the real fun comes after, and that is why people recommend the ultimate vault hunter DLC. it will increase the game difficulty and make it an actual challenge, and allow more points in the skill tree.
add that to 6 playable classes and 100 hours is just for the lulz and story gaming

Honestly, I only liked Tiny Tina Assault on Dragon Keep. The rest of the dlc was just repetitive and kinda boring. The GOTY copy doesn't cost much more, so I'd still get it. It is well worth the extra few bucks.

If you only want to play <50 hours or so, there isn't much point to the dlc. After that, it gets really useful.

Just like classic Borderlands is fun by itself Borderlands 2 stands proad to be good with or without dlc. The DLC only enchances the game except for the aesthetic ones.

I got a question. I've got the GOTY edition. What am I missing for complete game? Except Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2? Are the other DLC's not included in GOTY just cosmetical stuff for multiplayer? Thanks.
