As the title say, i was suspended for 1 week for not activating a game i won a week ago... The fact is, i didn't realized i did't activated the game (just activated becose wen you are suspended you can't see your wins).. If gifters have a week to gift the game, winners should have a week to activate them...

Was a correct suspension?

It was correct, you should be careful when you win something, and make 100% sure you activate it when creator gives you key, gift or whatever.

When did you mark it as received?

So were you suspended within 7 days of winning it then? I find that difficult to believe...?

He won the game on 12th of september and was probably banned for 5 days right after a week passed.

But he states above that he was suspended for 1 week. Something's not adding up. I have no idea how long suspensions are for not activating wins, is 5 days the standard suspension time?

Yes, I guess he just rounded it up.

Don't mark as received until you activate the game. Problem solved.

I would say it was a bit harsh but correct. Lesson learned I think.

You would've had time to activate it but I guess you clicked on 'mark received' which just wasn't true, so that suspension seems right.

Mark received only after activating. that's the rule... you have seven days, but before you marked...

Yeah, you should activate it before you mark it received, So this way, you won't have any trouble!

That's how it works. You were suspended 8 days after the giveaway ended.

He meant after receiving the game.
e.g. creator gives the game on day 6 after the GA has ended, THEN he has 7 days to activate it (total number of days for this instance: 13).

Not knowing the exact course of events it's not possible for me to give a reliable opinion.
My only tip: mark as received right after activating the game.

I think his problem was that he marked it as received before activating it. Might be worth a clarification (there's actually not much in the FAQ about what 'received' actually means).

You can mark the game as received, and not activate it in that 7 days time frame after the giveaway has ended without getting into trouble. This is to help people who can't access their gaming computer immediately after winning, etc. But after a week you'll get banned.

His problem is that he marked it as received, but didn't activate the game in the week period after the giveaway ended. So on the 8th day after the giveaway ending he got rightfully banned.

Like anyone else, if you have marked it received but not activated, time isn't relevant.

If you didn't mark received, you would still have a little 1 on the icon and you would have been reminded to check that too.

Both the giving of the game and its acknowledgment by the recipient occur in the same seven-day grace period. Marking the game as "received" may be delayed until the game has been activated. Any request for a re-roll due to a lack of response goes through Support, and we check that the winner has been contacted and failed to respond.

Steps to take after a win:

  1. Wait for the gift to be delivered to you.
  2. Upon receiving the gift, activate it to your account.
  3. After activating the game to your account, mark the game as "received."

Won gifts should be activated to the Steam account used during registration, and they should not be re-gifted, traded, or sold. Users who are suspended for non-activation are given the name of the game they failed to activate along with a message to contact Support once they have activated the game. Once you have contacted us, and we can see you have activated the game, we will lift your suspension. If a person has any difficulty with this, he or she should contact Support.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks! i marked as recibed, my bad. Also, the suspension gives the option to contact support after activating the game, but you can't see the wins (in this case it was a key showed in the winss) what makes imposible to activate the game while you are suspended!

my bad then, will mark recibed after activating since now :)

Received -> I successfully received the game from creator and activated it on my account, please ban me if I didn't.

You can't activate right away or don't have time? Then DON'T mark as received until you do.

This is why the site needs a warning system when it comes to this stuff. But it wont because the mods are trigger happy with bans.

I guess the rules weren't warning enough? The site doesn't need to hold peoples' hands. It's about personal responsibility.
