I was suspended for 1 week.. Question

It was correct, you should be careful when you win something, and make 100% sure you activate it when creator gives you key, gift or whatever.

When did you mark it as received?

So were you suspended within 7 days of winning it then? I find that difficult to believe...?

I would say it was a bit harsh but correct. Lesson learned I think.

You would've had time to activate it but I guess you clicked on 'mark received' which just wasn't true, so that suspension seems right.

Mark received only after activating. that's the rule... you have seven days, but before you marked...

Yeah, you should activate it before you mark it received, So this way, you won't have any trouble!

If gifters have a week to gift the game, winners should have a week to activate them...

That's how it works. You were suspended 8 days after the giveaway ended.

Like anyone else, if you have marked it received but not activated, time isn't relevant.

If you didn't mark received, you would still have a little 1 on the icon and you would have been reminded to check that too.

Both the giving of the game and its acknowledgment by the recipient occur in the same seven-day grace period. Marking the game as "received" may be delayed until the game has been activated. Steps to take after a win:

1. Wait for the gift to be delivered to you.
2. Upon receiving the gift, activate it to your account.
3. After activating the game to your account, mark the game as "received."

You can't activate right away or don't have time? Then DON'T mark as received until you do.

This is why the site needs a warning system when it comes to this stuff. But it wont because the mods are trigger happy with bans.
