Hello again!

As i said on the title, i want to create a group for people who want to learn a new language or speak better, while playing games. (Actually, i just created the group but didn't finish the details --> Play & Learn)

Well, i had this problem while trying to find people to play a few games, lastly Vermintide 2. You can find people to play with, but sometimes it is hard to play with native English speakers because they are speaking too fast and you can't talk as well as them so it feels... bad? At least for me, that is what happened. I get too excited while talking and it was a bad experience for both sides.

So... I thought that maybe it could be a lot easier for people to play with people who still learning like me. Or maybe some native speakers may want to help not native speakers. Then i created the group.

I am thinking about creating a Sheet for beginners where you can filter people according to the language, games he/she is playing, native or not, active hours etc. then turning it to a website. There will be a Discord channel as well.

I am asking here because honestly, i didn't want to spend too much effort if people think Steam discussions is more convenient, or maybe another alternative if there is.

I am taking this seriously because i really want to create a mini "school" that aims at making people speak more frequently and maybe learn new languages. So, this won't be a giveaway group (ofc anyone can create giveaways) or totally "chill" group. (This doesn't mean i will kick people)

So, please tell me what do you think and don't forget to vote below :)

edit.

Ok everyone, i think Google Sheet is ready. You can tell me any suggestions or feedback.

Do you think it is a good idea?

It can work with few more additions (please explain)
No

Joined for a good opportunity.
As for me, I can't log in to my gaming PC currently. It will last for a few weeks so I plan to be active on gaming after this period.
Also, can you elaborate on what language we can exchange? Maybe your specific sheet?

Well, while preparing the sheet there will be columns for "native language" and "language i want to practice"

So if you choose English as your "language i want to practice", you will play with people who want to practice English just like you.

What is your native language? I'd like to learn Japanese or Chinese, and my native language is english. Also, I have learned some spanish and french, but not fluent in either.

Mine is Turkish.

In the group, if there are people who want to practice Japanese or Chinese, then you can practice.

(Small warning tho, this is not a "Learning" group. It is a talking practice group.

I'd be interested, most of the people I spend my time with aren't native English speakers like me so I don't mind explaining phrases, talking more slowly, etc. so I could help people out who are learning it the best I can ^^

One good addition would probably be for the site to match by language, game, and region (last one to avoid lag... since I assume you mean co-op/multiplayer)

Then you could also have useful terms for that game on the associated page. For example, if you are playing an RPG then it might be good to have a reference sheet of common RPG terms in the target language to use as a cheat sheet.

I'd be interested in improving my (very poor) German and my (even worse) Spanish. Possibly one or two other languages like Japanese or Russian. But it would really depend on the people and what we're playing. I'm not really into competitive/PVP stuff at all, but co-op/PVE is fun. But I suppose that is also something that could be filtered via website.

Region is a good idea. Other 2 is already on the list :)

I am not sure about your second suggestion since i don't think it is a huge list that worth creating. (And i think it is different for different games)

It is way too early for the website. If people show interest, i will "try to" create to make it easier to connect other people.

Hey,

All group recruitment should be done in corresponding category, and group should be focused on making giveaways on SG. So your idea doesn't really fit here.

But you are basically looking for people to play games with, and want to create a way to find them. So I will move this discussion into User Projects category.
