This poll is to see how many people think the US servers should be locked as a region for ranked play. This is mainly due to people not able to communicate with their team due to language barriers.

The frustration for many players is that they can't communicate with players in a highly competitive game that requires a lot of teamwork and communication.

Would a region lock fix the problem? are their alternative methods?

Do you think ranked gameplay should have a regional lock?

I don't know what that means?

Video games are meant to be taken so seriously!! Of course an environment most conducive to performance should be fostered!

I mean ... id love to play with Non Russians in Europe .... but thats just Not happening :)

Locking the servers also can cause uproar and drama , based on arguments such as A , there are teams that consist of NA and EU ( other region) Players .
Locking out the US Servers , would kinda fuck them over real bad .

And B , i got a lot of friends from US and Canada that i play dota with , and im from Europe ... being forced to not use the US Servers is kinda No-no for me :)
There are lots more arguments ppl can come up with , but it comes down to luck i guess.
Volvo is Never going to do such a thing , so i guess we should pray to RNGeezus that the Peruvians or Russians are on the enemy team :)

I see where you are coming from , it can be frustrating when you get that teammate(s) who just dont speak english , and refuse to comunicate in any way ...
And essentially force you to play a 4v6-3v7-2v8 or my favorite 1v9 russians .

I dont mind russians , i have bunch of russian friends , but holy fuck after 5-6 games of DOTA i feel like Nuking them out of existence :c

Even beyond language barriers, I think ping is another challenge. I like that international play is supported, but I think it should be a bit more limited in Ranked. Maybe a Worldwide queue for those that want to group up with international friends. Considering there is are East and West servers for USA, it seems Valve sees some importance in minimizing ping for some players instead of consolidating servers.

Yes, though I guess the lack of a region lock helped me learn Russian and Spanish for free.

As far as I know, it depends on players online.
When you join an online game, it will first place you with players in your region, then after a few minutes of not filling the 10 slots, it expands, and expands again, etc.
For us in SA, we usually get 10 slots of SA players, but occasionally, we are joined by some Brazilians. Not sure that the best option, since there are other European servers with a common tongue. People tend to get easily annoyed when such language and cultural barriers come into play. Dudes swear at each other, etc. from the same teams...very nasty stuff.

I play dota, well in China with bots, not really clearly know what problem you've met. Means there are many foreigners match the game on NA servers course u usually match someone together with their poor english? Anyway I think teamwork especially communication is a very important link in dota even when u beat bots, a team without voice is rather so boring, also u can't share much helpful information with others. Although that's sadly while in rank, it may be not so serious as to make regional lock, what will cause lot new issues. At last how about get some experience from ones play dota or csgo with Russians ?
Writing on iPad so sorry for the bad type layout.

No, region-locking servers would cause issues with people playing with foreign friends.

I don't play Dota, but I voted "No". In my opinion, no game should be region locked. Many people know several languages and there's no need to separate them from others because of their nationality. A better solution would be to let players list their known languages, so they can be matched with players they're able to communicate with. The ones who wouldn't do that would get matched randomly.

In that case, the developers should change default selection to "Not specified" and possibly make the option to change preferred language more visible. Maybe even include it in game browser, if the Dota 2 has one.

Pretty sure the default is regional but it doesn't really matter.

Well in LoL I play with my NA friends even though I am from EU, so things like that would make it impossible for me to play with them.
Also, it would make EU servers very very limited because rather than large chunks of EU together there would just be country by country leaving less players in each matchmaking pool.
Sure it sucks when my team don't speak the same language than me but I think the negatives of it would outweight the positives.

Took the poll.
It's always a bit tricky since you'd have to make appropriate regions for the major language barriers which are not always easy to identify. Separating US as a continent should be reasonable though, I didn't even know Dota had global players mixed. I imagine ping is a horrible and much more problematic issue???

They should find a better solution (server restrictions when getting reported there a certain amount for communication or something) , I mean it's the same with Russians and Turks on EU servers, but you can't blame all of them and yes I've been playing on US servers myself for about 900 games, Peruvians and other South Americans were about equally annoying as our "loved" ones here on the EU servers. ^^

Everytime you play ranked, just pray that one of those countries don't join you. It's a pain in the ass dealing with idiots who don't even speak English.

Agreed. There are too many arrogant people in SEA server that just don't listen.
You need luck to climb in SEA, I climbed from 3.2 to 4.2 over the course of 2 years, then dropped back to 3.7 over the course of a few days. (Don't really dota as much anymore cause of that; too rage inducing)

Nah. While I agree that being able to communicate with your team is vital, it also depends on the stability of the servers. I'm in the SEA region and I hate playing with pinoys, but going to the Australian server, which is the second best ping is still slightly laggy for me. Valve needs to find a better implmentation or give those pinoys their own servers, as many have asked for in the past.

I don't play ranked but restricting servers depending where you live seems wrong. If you are playing an online game, of course you'd get all sort of people playing with you. I don't mind language barriers or rude people and just try my best anytime. Unless there's some extreme flaming or feeding etc going on, just quietly report them and move on.
