Reading through the dev's twitter and interview I feel awful for him. He tries to do something nice, and even humors our preference for Steam keys rather than DRM-free games, and has an awful time.
I can't really say I'm surprised what happened, but I never properly thought about the impact this sort of thing has on indie devs before. So glad he's got such a supportive response though.

Ah, what a shame. I understand what brought this about, but still... I had been trying to get a key since the offer came up, but the page just wasn't loading. I do remember some idiot bragging on reddit about having nabbed 10 keys by then for reselling... I finally managed to grab a key using the generator link, not knowing it wasn't right, and now I see it's been revoked. It infuriates me how that bragging jackass probably will keep his/her keys while mine has been taken away... :(
I also see there are still giveaways for the game going on at galagiveaways, wonder if those will be taken down too.

Did they delete the games with the stolen keys already? I heared about some players having their games deleted but idk.
I won a giveaway here yesterday about this game, I wonder if the key was legit or not.. :\
For now the game seems to work fine though, I hope it would stay that way

Same thing happened with the Golden Joysticks giveaway. One guy I was on a trade server with had 850 copies of Civ 5 and 20 of Mafia 2.

That's just nuts. I mean, how long can it take to get all those?

Still have my key and feel a bit bad now.
Was on the checkout screen for the game at the time the Reddit thread was saying to try the code "Boo". It wasn't applying any discount for me.
Next time I tried was after someone in here said they had stopped issuing Steam keys and the Reddit thread was saying the code hade changed to "Boo2". Was still interested and went to apply the code on the checkout and couldn't get to the actual checkout from the "buy now" button, it was saying there excessive load or demand for that vendor, can't recall the exact wording of it. Someone then posts that link on here and I used it, downloading a DRM-free version, thinking that was just the new link because of all the demand and that there was now no need for checkout or credit card info etc.
Later on there's a post saying they're now issuing steam keys again and whilst I'd already downloaded it DRM free, I'd rather have a Steam version so tried to get it. When I went to the store site and checkout I was automatically directed to the page issuing the keys. Couldn't even get to the checkout screen etc so once again thought that this was the new arrangement and took a key.
I did notice that when using the link whilst getting the DRM version and later trying to legit get a Steam key there was a "logout" link at the top-right of the screen. I wondered why I was apparently logged in and clicking it did nothing.

I have 2 question about this: When talking about a leaked "backend" link, are we talkin about the getkey.jsp script on that shop site??? Or is "backend" something even behind this? Because I, and probably else who got himself a free copy, got forwarded to that siteby the purchase button in the shop. It was visible in URL bar, so sharing the link would not be an exploit really, cause everyone who used the "normal entry" would end up at this site anyways. The jsp site, upon refreshing, gave the same key again, so somebody exploiting it would have to at least use different IPs or bypass other security measures they used.
Secondly, why is 30.000 keys considered an exploit? I guess if a giveaway for Steam is shared the word spreads very quickly globally across reddit, cheapassgamer, several game deals sites, steam groups, forums and so on... So 30.00 isn't really a huge number taking into account the millions of Steam users worldwide. Maybe I lack some information here, and the keys were taken in very short time, so an exploit can be safely assumed?
Anyways, hope my key and the key my friend got this noon won't be revoked.
I also feel sorry for the generous developer in case the keys really got stolen.
People doing multiple giveaways to boost their CV or even trading multiple of those keys should be ashamed.

It was jsp (key generator) site and after dev asked the site distributing games to close the promotion they only deleted the link to jsp site but not the generator itself (what lead to the exploit of people getting 30k keys after the promo was closed, meaning those keys were not supposed to be given away as the promotion was done at this time)

I was trying a bunch of times to get the Steam code until the download page showed that I can use the "Get Steam code" button. Well, I feel sorry for the developers. I hope I don't get my copy revoked or else I will have to redownload it through my Dropbox (I saved its installer to Dropbox using a webapp so I could download it later if no Steam codes were to appear).
Sorry, devs for the trouble you went through.

I got my key far before the debacle and my copy is gone. I'm not mad about that, I'm scratching my head wondering how a developer let this happen, after all the problems with this type of stuff in the recent past. Oh well's, until the game hits a dollar I'll just hang back. I'm spoiled from bundles, and burned by triple A crap.

I lost my copy, I used it yesterday, when someone put a key here somewhere.

Yesterday, there was a nice little giveaway of Blackwell Deception from the developers. You had to go to their site, add it to your cart and input a code and you'd get it for free. It was rather nice. Unfortunately, that giveaway ended. More unfortunately, someone here on Steamgifts decided that was not acceptable and posted a direct link to the key generator. They'd taken down the frontend of the giveaway, but not the backend at the time. 30,000 keys were stolen overnight. The mods were already at work deleting multiple copies of these giveaway and suspending the users for exploited key giveaways before this. Now, we're likely going to delete every giveaway of Blackwell Deception posted from this giveaway and it has already been removed from the giveaway list. Every key is likely to be revoked from this giveaway. They are currently trying to revoke only the keys used after midnight (not sure what time zone that is but it appears to be midnight GMT), but in case that is impossible, prepare to have every key, including the legitimate ones, removed from your Steam account or whoever you gave it to. Everyone who made multiple giveaways here for these keys will be suspended and have their giveaways deleted. Everyone who didn't exploit the developer's generosity may unfortunately fall victim to the latter anyway to avoid a ton of work for support and yourselves dealing with "fake" giveaways. My apologies to everyone for this, but unfortunately everyone is put out now thanks to one person's greed.
Update: The developer has confirmed that any keys recieved before midnight will be allowed to stay.
Update 2: cg's PSA
