Just about any EA game can be activated on Origin either through the use of its multiplayer code or by contacting Origin Support and providing them with proof that you purchased the PC version of the game on another system. Alice 2, Mirror's Edge, Bulletstorm, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Dead Space, etc. If you own it on PC, Origin will most likely activate it for you. They want you to buy it on Origin, but more than that they want you to buy it. If you got it on another system they at least want you playing it through Origin so that you see all the ads and sales that they offer through the service, making you more likely to go through them in future.

Perhaps to have a backup way of playing the games when Steam is acting up again.
Also, for most Origin games, once you've installed it, you don't have to have the client running in order to play, nor do you need active internet connection.

No. You always have to have the Steam client running to play your Steam games. And unless you know you'll be without internet in advance and activate offline mode, you also have to have an active internet connection in order to even log into Steam. With most games on Origin, you don't need either after you've installed them.
EDIT: Turns out I was wrong, and there are plenty of games that don't need Steam running. My bad.

no, you can play so much games without running steam... Try any games from your steamapps/common folder.
Cod4, TDU2, arma cold war assault, crayon physics, demolition inc, dirt2, machinarium, wings of prey...
And those are only few games which I now tried...

Interesting - I wasn't aware of that. I stand corrected.
It seems in my earlier attempts, I managed to exclusively select those games that don't work without Steam running (Anomaly Warzone Earth, Skyrim, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet etc.).

Oh ? Did warheat say anything positive about EA/Origin ? Or anything about EA at all, for that matter ? Maybe he said say something along the lines of "why anyone would want to activate games on Steam? or even use it?" ? No ?
He just pointed out that the why-would-anyone-use-something-I-don't-like-BS reeks of fanboy-ism.

Because most peoples say EA sucks without any reason(hate train), not going to defend EA but from my experience with Steam, I would say Steam support is no better than EA support.

as far as i know every game from EA on Steam activates on Origin. I myself activated Alice: Madness Returns, Bulletstorm, Burnout Paradise, Darkspore, Dead Space 1-2, NFS: Hot Pursuit and Shank.
For anyone trying to activate Dead Space 1 u need to search for the cd-key in the registry.

What registry, i assume that i need to download the game first?
Comment has been collapsed.
yes, download and run it one time
then hit <windows key>+R and open "regedit". Use the search feature with "Dead Space" and search something that looks like a key. Close registry without making any changeing.

Burnout Paradise The (NOT SO) Ultimate Box can be activated on both too

That's probably the free one EA gave some time ago.

They didn't gave it away, it's actually an Origin store bug where you can add it to your account for free, you don't even need a credit card. They're really bad at coding
