No? Unless you're expecting the multiplayer games to be full of other people, there's no reason not to play.

Always puzzled by these kinds of questions. Is it ever too late to play an old game?

But be aware of the resolution of those games. That can scare you off the screen or cause headache, like I had during trying to play Wolf3D... Anyway, check them out. Fallout or Planescape Torment are must-play for true role play fan. Like many other games, that's just example.

What's the problem with Wolf3D's resolution?

It's possible that old graphics or old school gameplay might turn you off if you're used to new games, but different people have different tolerance levels for that. Chances are, by the time you really get into a game you don't care about stuff like the graphics anyway. It never hurts to try, and you might just discover a few real gems.

Nothing wrong in going back to give a shot to great games you've missed out on playing before. Just figure out the level of older graphics/resolutions you can handle before your eyes start to bleed. :P

I just finished both Fallout 1 and 2 which are still awesome games. A good game will always be good.
Also try Deus Ex if you haven't already.
Graphic isn't always very important, specially if the games have a great style (like the 2 Fallouts, or Outcast and many others). FPSs suffer a bit more on that side, but there are a lot of high resolution mod for the best one. And old fps were totally on anotehr level years ago (a better one of course) talking about level design and gameplay, only few of the moderns one can stand against them.

If you are used to amazing graphics, tutorials at the beggining and fast gameplay, it could be too late.

Holy shit I'm old. I would never say that Diablo of Fallout are old school or even old games. For me that would be some NES or even Commodore 64 games...

lol I feel the same way. Old School: Pacman, Burgertime(anyone remember this?), Space Invaders, Colecovision with
Q-Bert & Ladybug, then Mario Bros. A bit later~Crash Bandicoot-he rocks!

interestingly enough there are some collections of old school games still floating around, for those who look for them... i could run pitfall or h.e.r.o. on my mac, that's worth the effort just for the memories!

D1 might be hard to get into as it is much more rigid, but all those you cited Must have been played at least once :p.

In cases the game grapgics make it hard for you due to habits of proper resolution and all that, you should look into mods. I think there are some for Fallout 1 / 2 to make the game much easier on the eyes.

Fallout 1 is one of the best games ever (just look at my avatar), and I started playing it this year. The same goes for Half-Life 1 - I can't wait to play HL2!
