No it is NOT, head over to GOG. To your list I would add the likes of Alpha Centauri, Star Control 2, Grim Fandango, Monkey Island(s), Arcanum, Torment, System Shock 1&2, Beneath a Steel Sky, Total Annhilation, Freelancer1&2, Outcast and plenty others.

And yes, nowadays that is all referred to as "old school".

Why would it be too late?
It's never too late. I strongly recommend NOT buying classics on Steam though. They pretty much just dump the original CD files on Steam and that's it.

GOG does all the work needed to make certain the games run without any issues on modern OS, and ensure their compatible with mods.
Steam does neither and you'll often find they just flat out won't run, or if they do they have various minor issues.

Some old multiplayer games are too late for playing sadly. Games like most Unreal and Quake titles are all dead, HL1 and HL2 Deathmatch are pretty dead also.

Well I would like to say never but some games are so old they got compatibility issues, some got fixes some don't.
If the game you want to play works then go ahead.

Do people still play the original Diablo online? I sometimes wonder if I load it up if anyone else would be out there. I assume the answer is no but i'm too lazy to install it and find out.

Sometimes this is untrue, Unreal Tournament still has plenty of servers, same with Quake 3 I think...

I sure hope not - I have some games that are several years old that I've never even installed, and more than I want to think about that I've never finished...

Never to late if you can get past the graphics and sometimes a steep learning curve.

What? No, of course it isnt. Go to GoG like, right now and play them. Some of the free games there are pretty excellent too. I was pleasantly surprised by Dragonsphere, for instance. And Fallout is like, the bestest thing ever.

Played a few rounds of Master of Magic a couple of weeks ago, still awesome. The only limit to your enjoyment is yourself, so GOG.COM already ^_^

It's never too late to play older games. The original Fallout and Diablo games are some of my favorite games ever made. It'll take some getting used to, but you'll get the hang of it. Just don't expect a lot of older games to hold your hand.
