After winning a copy of Galactic Arms Race, I was struck by how much the game-play reminded me of a 2d space MMO that I played sometime in the late 90's or early 21st century, but I couldn't remember the name. I still cant actually, so I was wondering if anyone remembers any of the games from that time period that would fit, because whatever it was I want to play it again. After some searching I came across Subspace, now Continuum, but I can't be sure. I do remember it being hectic, possibly having a point based kill system, and lots of green energy meters. Any suggestions along this vein would be appreciated.

Np. I was thinking it was weird for it not to have any comments in an hour since creation.

Did you mine planets and build nukes? I remember a game like that we played to death in computer lab by sneaking it it when we were supposed to be doing 'schoolwork'.

I don't remember a whole lot of mining, but building nukes might sounds somewhat familiar. I also remember an integral part of the pvp was the gank principle.

I also thought of subspace/continuum as well when I saw the GAR video! I always enjoyed Subspace as a time killer in the dorms.

You had your choice of about 9 ships with various abilities. There was a slow ass bomber, a stealth ship with weak guns, one that shot three bullets but they fanned out, and so forth. Also the more kills or green energy orbs you ate the better you became. There were several different game play modes. Capture and hold, Free for all, and one where if I remember correctly you had to make "goals" by throwing energy balls. Even one that instead of ships your had what looked like an over head view of a person with a gun. It was like cheesy 2D counterstrike. haha. And yes it was all pretty fast paced/hectic

If any of that rings a bell I'd say you were thinking of Subspace.

Although, I have to point out that your link seems to go to a place about the hosting of Subspace servers. I THINK, and I stress THINK, you need to go to http://www.subspace.co/index to get the actual game. Haven't played it in years... Good Luck in the trenches my friend!

Oh man, I remember playing Subspace back in the day. Turret stacking a bunch of people on one guy and charging in somewhere.
