Good Evening everybody!

After having three very successful Giveaways here on Steamgifts we decided to make another one without using this great service.
We are giving away FEZ and Starseed Pilgrim, both until next Friday.

All you have to do is to Like our Facebook-Page for FEZ and - if you are using Google Plus - to add our Google Plus Page into your Circles.

Why we are doing all these Giveaways is because we need your feedback.

Our Page Steamtogether.com is a free service, we created it as a hobby and dont make any money with it. It lets you compare your steam games with your friends and gives you a list of missing Games and those you have in common.

If you want any feature implemented or think that you found a bug, please send us a short note via our Contact Form or at feedback@steamtogehter.com.

Thank you very much and good luck with the giveaway!

Thanks. We were struggling with this idea as well but its a great chance to reach a lot of people with low effort. Thanks for your opinion though.

Oh and by the way, did you try the comparator?

Thanks very much for your feedback. The Layout was the hardest part indeed because the two of us are both developers and therefore had a hard time doing the "design". Do you have any suggestions? Or would you simply throw it away and put the functionality into a new design?

I think you could use some graphics instead of pure text. And the color is a little bit too redish. I think grey or blue would be better. Just some personal opinion though.

We added some Pictures in the Blog entry on the Frontpage.
Complete redesign is on top of our todo-list though.
Thanks for your input!

i made a site a few years ago that did what you say steamtogether.com does, but the database didn't scale well so i shut it down. hope you have better luck!

sorry, i don't remember and it's since been deleted so i can't check either. here's what i was storing:

  • games: any game that was found on any player would end up here i screen-scraped the steam store page to figure out if they had coop, multiplayer, achievements, and/or leaderboards and stored that here too.
  • players: anybody who logged in to my site plus all of their friends with public profiles.
  • friends: links of every player to each of their friends and how much each friend's game list should count for. i would store both steve is friends with adam and adam is friends with todd.
  • game ownership: links of every player to every game they own or at least one of their friends own, with percentage of friends who own the game (that was used for sorting, so games more popularly owned among friends could be sorted to the top). i'm pretty sure this is where the problem came from.

i checked out steamtogether and added a few of my friends in the comparator -- looks like what i was working on when i gave up on my site, but yours is much faster! i'll keep it in mind for possible future lan party use. i would have liked to show both coop and multiplayer games in the same list at once but the filter option only seemed to allow one. as a programmer i appreciate the technical parts which seem to work well, but the visual design could use some work so it looks like it's as good as it is.

i have a bare-minimum start (as in only a login form so far) on a new site that i hope will handle a lot of the needs of throwing a lan party. if you're interested in checking it out when i have something public, i'll post it on the group i created for my previous site: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steampressure

Ok, i checked your reply in detail now. Sounds like we did pretty much the same things in most parts. We don't screen-scrap information though, we use several webservices for that. For the comparison we created some pretty fast views and functions on the database, which gives us the good performance in comparing, the slow part is still the synchronizing process from steam, but you know that.

I still havent found out what steampressure is going to do, maybe you are interested in some sort of cooperation. Just send us a short message on steam or at feedback@steamtogether.com!

i used the xml versions of friends lists and game lists, but i couldn't find a webservice to get information on a game. i don't know much about database performance and had no views or functions so lots of joins. i also had it queue up most calculating or loading from steam tasks and had the webserver run them in the background. seems that you're doing much better in those areas!

steampressure is my old site -- the new one will have a different name since it's not as focused on steam or which games your steam friends own. i want to focus more specifically on supporting lan parties and whatever you'd call an online form of a lan party. it probably will have some overlap because for example it would be nice to know that almost everyone going to the lan party wants to play killing floor so you might want to consider buying it. i also plan to support event scheduling and invites.

i'll definitely have a link to steamtogether.com -- at minimum it will be in a list of other useful steam sites. i'm not sure how long it'll take me to get to something at all usable, but i also found the steamtogether steam group from your steam profile and joined that so provided new features get announced there i should stay up to date. i didn't see a link to the steam group from steamtogether.com though?

Steam / Valve offers a Webservice API for most of the issues. There are some other Webservices over the internet, which you could use.
If you need ideas or assistance, don't hesitate to contact us too!

(Good Idea to actually Link the Steamgroup on the Frontpage... Thanks for that!)
