There was an amazing book I read some time ago and lent to a friend who has since moved. I have lost contact with them so I cannot find the name of the book...Maybe you can help me!
It is based on Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll in which a boy goes through a mirror into Alice's mirror world and everything is backwards. Bubbles and feathers are deadly weapons and he meets odd ghosts, even the one who invented Mayonnaise.
The story is set in Paris, France and I believe starts out with him and his parents eating King Cake for the Epiphany. He gets excited about possibly finding the paper crown inside.
I also recall his rhetoric teacher is hard on him and he visits the Louvre to learn about some historical figures.
Does this ring a bell with anyone? If you haven't read it (and the name is found) you should. It's really a great book I found by accident one day when browsing a used book store.
