We've been out all night, and we haven't been home
We're walkin' through the backstreets, all alone!
The party was great, yeah, we were really thrilled!
And when we get in, we're gonna get killed!.

Hi Lugum!

Sorry for this off-topic reply here, as I recall you were using Kaspersky, right? I came upon this article and I know you're not affected by this but I just wanted to know about your thoughts, since this seems to be Kaspersky has some kind of backdoor to be able to do this.

Hi.

I am indeed not affected, so i reallly don't have an opinion about it, It's the same as asking who you want to see for president Trump or Harris? It's not my country and thus no opinion, if you have to have one about the entire world, i learned you tire easily.
And i don't even know with so much fake news these days if that article is even true.
Any antivirus has to have a high clearance on your pc being able to delete stuff that's rooted deep, kaspersky should have just given a message saying they can't provide any services anymore instead of installing different software, i agree there.

I been using Kaspersky for years, then switched to Eset for a few years (pirated, but these days that is basically impossible, yet Microsoft with it's billions still can't build a good anti pirate measure). And now i been using Kaspersky again without problems for a few years, it's proven to still be the best antivirus.

And you wouldn't even want to know what Microsoft is all doing, installing, looking with you without your knowledge. One has to be a little trusting, even shrug your shoulders from time to time, else you have to go back to dos and unplug your modem if one is that paranoid.
Things can even happen with one of the 50000 games on steam you install (and devs did install stuff with their "games").

I understand and agree. Though I try to follow software news even if I'm unaffected, for a general judgement.

I see. In that case I guess we can say this is a misuse of privileges, though concerning. Since they have the power to do this to any of their users. Not that they can pull the same thing in EU but what they did creates a risk, maybe they should've been more transparent about it. Being able to remotely install another software says they have more than high clearance in my opinion (I'm not a security expert). And yeah, Microsoft doing the same thing on OS level, but it's another topic.

I hear they got better comparing to Windows 7 days, but probably it isn't even close to third-party antivirus software.

Yeah, trust has become an issue with big corporations. For greater or evil reasons, they want more control over users. Either case they lose trust by doing that. A bit cliche but trust is hard to build and easy to lose. I think this is where Kaspersky is now, this might be bad for their reputation.

I think this already happened and yeah can happen with any game, potentially. No idea if Valve has some kind of security measure for this, at least for obvious stuff. It's quite bad if they don't have any. Well, this is the exact same point. Trust.
