He is wrong.

Are you trolling? Your saying that when you play a game you cant tell the difference between 25fps and 60fps for example?
Sorry cant believe you.

I'd wait for a Newegg sale to be honest. Once a week or so they have ridiculous deals on monitors.
Some people swear they can see a difference between 60 and 120 Hz but I wouldn't invest in a 120 Hz setup until you've seen one in person.

It all depends on types of games you're going to play and will your PC be able to run them at 120 FPS (even if it takes less than that to notice the difference).
I would personally go for screen size, resolution and quality. I personally got myself Achieva Shimian, also known as one of "Korean monitors" which are essentially 27'' LG panels that are not A+ and thus not good enough for big names like Dell and Apple. However, they are perfectly fine 27'' 2560x1440 S-IPS panels (grade A or A-) encased by local Korean companies and shipped worldwide for about $300-350 total. Going for Dell or Apple of same size would cost you over $700.

It's interesting how those "Korean monitors" have changed the way people think about this situation. Used to be common for people to buy the best monitor they can afford, and keep it while the rest of their machine gets replaced several times over. But these things are so cheap (relatively speaking) you don't even have to worry about it any more.
Have been very happy with my old Dell 30" but if I were looking for something today I'd get one of these cheap guys and save a lot of money... :)

120 Hz is for 3D and watching movies. Movies are shot at 24p so with a 120 Hz monitor it would divide and distribute the frames more evenly
I can distinglish the difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz when watching movies but in gaming there is no difference
I would buy a quality 24 inch 60 Hz Dell IPS monitor, A+ panel. For a larger screen it is cheaper to buy a HDTV

120hz is nice and all but I would rather go with a IPS screen personally for better colors, viewing angles, etc...
Dell makes decent ones for fair prices I think, worth checking out.

As the title says, I'm getting a new monitor this week and need some suggestions. Going to be used as a gaming monitor at 1920x1080 resolution. I'm torn between 24" and 27" and 60hz and 120hz, is there really any noticeable difference in those? I don't really plan to do any gaming in 3D, so would 120hz be worth the extra money?
Here's my current set-up... clicky
Thanks for any suggestions!
