Waking Mars is definitely great. One of my favorite games I've played on Steam, the puzzling isn't too hard, the graphics are nice, especially those multi-tiered backdrops. The story is very nice, as well as the voice acting, it may not be a very strong story in an emotional sense, but it definitely drives the exploratory nature of the game. Speaking of which, the exploration of the this botanical world underneath the surface of Mars is what makes love the game so.

Wasteland Angels is okayish, I haven't played that much though but based on what I've played nothing about the game overwhelmed me.

Zack Zero seems like a soso action platformer with some decent aesthetics and a simple story, I think all ages can enjoy if it's their cup of tea, if you want a action platformer I'd suggest looking at Giana Sisters or They Bleed Pixels first

Mars: War Logs is decent if you know what to expect, being a Focus Home Interactive game you should know that it's going to have some pitfalls, especially since it's trying to achieve a lot with a smaller team than AAA games have, so yeah there are definitely areas that need work, but I still like it. That may be my bias to all games sci-fi speaking through me though.

Gun Monkeys... just played this today for cards, I played the tutorial and sat in the lobby for MP and never got a game, checking the forums confirmed that it's pretty much dead already, sadly, didn't even really get to see what the game was like.

BIT.TRIP Runner is like any runner game I guess, it definitely gets challenging fast and can be a bit frustrating in that regard, but the A/V department really pulled through.

Spec Ops: The Line has a very interesting (especially in a psychological sense) story, the gameplay is pretty standard third person cover shooter, the graphics combined with the interesting setting make for one beautiful world. Overall pretty good.

I'd recommend a controller for Sonic Generations. It's been awhile since I've played it, but I remember enjoying it quite thoroughly, I especially liked the level diversity. From what my more hardcore Sanic friends say, it's one of the better Sonic games in awhile.

I didn't get to play VVVVVV very long (need to go back and finish it) but what I did play was enjoyable. It's visuals/audio are 8bit inspired, and the gameplay isn't very advanced, yet there are some very challenging areas.

LIMBO is definitely a game you should pick up during a sale. It's a very accessible atmospheric puzzle platformer (both elements are very light, it's more about the atmosphere). Looks great and has a nice backing ambient soundtrack. Not much else to say, other than it's nice.

F.3.A.R. gets knocked quite a bit, but I played it cooperatively with some friends and I actually enjoyed it. It's not scary, just creepy, and the story is soso, easy to follow but nothing extraordinary. Fettel (one of the two co-op characters) was extremely fun to play as, and definitely made the game more enjoyable compared to when you play as Point man (who is still fun to play as, with the slowmo and all, but still not as awesome as Fettel).

Half Minute Hero was a pretty decent game, although I never got into it enough to do anything besides play the main campaign. The concept is definitely original and definitely keeps the edge on while playing. Not much else to say, the story is easy to follow, there are some quirky characters...yeah

I Am Alive is probably one you can pass up on for now, it's a neat concept but a lot of the combat sequences get repetitive, and although I liked the platforming, some clunky controls took it down a notch. The hazy graphical effect gets irritating after playing the game for awhile, and it almost seems like they through it in so they didn't have to worry about finetuning textures as much (there were some items whose textures seemed quite bland on closer inspection). If you really want a post-apoc survival game, then get it when it's on sale, otherwise pass it up, IMO.

Adventures of Shuggy was fun for me, it added puzzling elements throughout the game to keep things interesting and the graphics were quite cute. Nothing overly difficult or challenging, but was still engaging and fun to play.

Deadlight's main strength is it's aesthetics, especially the visuals. The game looks so stunning, so many beautiful cityscapes... Anyways, gameplay is pretty decent although at times it feels like your controls are a tiny bit sluggish and there are some points where you are forced into trial-and-error situations because you are surprised by this or that. Overall though, I still enjoyed it, the ending of the story was a bit meh and it was a bit short too, so I say although it has it's moment, I wouldn't get it at anything less than 66% off.

I have been trying to hold off on playing Kerbal Space Program too much, but I did play it for cards, it still seems like there is quite a bit left in development so I'm personally awaiting it to finish. What I can say is that from what I have played, it's definitely fun and is a game you could easily sink a lot of hours into if it's something you get into to.

Scribblenauts Unlimited is definitely a game I recommend you to get some point in your life. It's a cute game, but more importantly it lets your imagination run wild, something I absolutely love about it.

Blades of Time is a soso action adventure game, the story and characters are on the average side, the protagonist is over sexualized almost to the point of it being a bit absurd. Combat is pretty much hack'n'slash from what I remember, and there are some light puzzling elements to it. Graphics are soso. It's alright, but there are better games out there similar to it, but hey, if it's on sale for quite a bit and you really like those sort of games, it's probably worth getting.

Tomb Raider 2013 was definitely a nice reboot. I really like the new Lara. The graphics are nice, the gameplay is solid, the story is in the league of any Uncharted game, really it's a very nice game all around. The only thing I would have liked to see more of is some more engaging puzzle, but honestly I can't complain.

I've only played about an hour of Hell Yeah! but I can say so far it seems like a nice action platformer. From what little I played I didn't really encounter any problems, and the A/V seemed good. Can't really bespeak on anything else.

A few of these I've done Steam recommendations for which are a bit more in-depth, I can grab links to them, if you like.

I was mostly playing it for the cards, since I try not to idle. I generally shy away from most versus games, but if you want someone to play with one of these days I wouldn't mind trying it out at the very least :>

Adding to a few:

Scribblenauts is primarily designed for all ages, so you really have to let your imagination go wild if you don't want to feel coddled by the quests.

Deadlight has stupid (read: realistic) zombies. That alone should up its score if you're on the side that hates 'smart' zombies. However, not long after the start the game introduces 'unkillable' zombies that will forever chase your ass if you're not constantly knocking them down and that is really annoying.

Bit.Trip Runner is muscle memory tied to chiptune music; auto-runner on an obstacle course. Best with a gamepad for the bosses/world 3.

Hmm, don't remember that about Deadlight, but it has been awhile. I do agree about Scribblenauts though, a lot of the solutions could be very easy to come up with, so challenging your imagination makes it more interesting than it otherwise would be.

From those which I have played:

Bulletstorm- The game is just as awesome as it's trailers suggest with a nice collection of brutally efficient weapons and kills. However, it's rather short and as far as I know, the co-op is dead. I can't say how it is port-wise though since I player it cracked and those tend to be different from the legit thing. But it uses Games For Windows Live and is published by EA, so yea... fair warning.

Evoland- Good. Short(-ish) but what did you expect?

LIMBO- It was sort of kinda interesting I guess, but looking back at it nothing too special. Short.

F.E.A.R. 3 - Nowhere near as scary as the previous games but at least it finishes the series. Personally I had no problem with the lack of major horror elements (it still tried to be scary at times) but if horror was your main interest in the series you may not enjoy it quite as much as the previous games. Haven't played co-op yet to say anything about it.

DmC Devil May Cry - As a fan of the previous Devil May Cry games I would say this one was way easier and they changed too many stuff to actually call it "DMC". But if you haven't played the previous games/weren't too hardcore with them, then the games is quite good on it's own when not compared to it's predecessors. So, yeah, good...

Stealth Bastard Deluxe - Good stealth/puzzle game.

Gunpoint - Short but good and a has a very interesting gameplay mechanic to it. :D

Teleglitch : Played the demo. Brilliant game. Hoping to play it more.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon : While I've only seen a stream of it, it looks like a great game and has some unique humour.
Batman : Well, I've seen a stream of the other ones, and I don't think this could get worse.
Saint's Row III : Played this at my friends house. It's pretty fun. Think GTA, but better.

Scribblenauts Unlimited - Funny & interesting game. You can create (almost) anything from your magic notepad. As English is not my major language, I think this game is pretty good for kids to learn English vocabulary in interesting way.

I can unconditionally recommend from personal experience: Bleed, Frozen Synapse, Spec Ops: The Line, and Payday 2.

I would stay away from: Zack Zero, Defiance, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Legendary, and I Am Alive.

From my experience:

Evoland - Nostalgic RPG feel but also a parody of RPGs. Fun short game but not worth full price. How long: 4-5 Hours

VVVVVV - Fun and short puzzle platformer. Has a nice soundtrack imo How long: 2-3 Hours

Bit.Trip Runner - Can be frustrating when trying to beat many difficult levels, but feels good beating them! How long: 6-7 Hours

Rogue Legacy - A Rogue Like-lite. Has permadeath, but death is not that punishing than other roguelike games. Fun and rewarding! I find it to have a 10,000,000 level up system and kinda like the IOS game "Infinity Blade". Buy it ^_^ How long: 10+ Hours

Spelunky - One of the most hardest game Ive ever played. Another roguelike platformer where you will die a lot if you dont know much about the game. Took me 2 hours to get out of the 1st area -_-. Very fun so consider it. :D

I'd mostly recommend Rogue Legacy and Spelunky, but good luck!

IMHO:

  • Remember Me: Not really worth it, unless it's on crazy special. Very bland linear gameplay. Comparable to Mirror's Edge.
  • Forge: Extremely fun, but really needs a decent play group and a decent server. Can be found very cheaply.
  • SolForge: Pledged on KS - Love it! Very unique mechanics for a card game.
  • Loadout: Somewhat disappointing, seems like it would appeal to people that like TF2 gameplay.
  • Prison Architect: Addictive. Comparable to simcity gameplay. Always fun to execute prisoners.
  • Shadowrun Returns: Love it, wish I had more time to play it.
  • Little Inferno: Addictive, but short. Simple gameplay, but some replayability since you can import photos to burn.
  • The Bureau: XCOM Declassified: Looks like it'll be amazing. Also worth preordering for the extra games if you're into XCOM.
  • Demigod: Standard MOBA, but quite basic gameplay. Good as an intro MOBA, not overwhelmed with characters to choose.

I also second CodeMana's recommendation of rogue-likes. :)

Mafia 2 is good. It's a little too straightforward but that doesn't keep you from being able to explore wherever you want. I just felt compelled to progress through the chapters thinking that it would be open ended after the last mission, but you have to just roam around during the chapters to be able to explore. Good cars, great music, funny stereotypes. What's not to love?

Fez -
It's an amazing game, if you don't use a walkthrough for most of it. Discovering things yourself is the point of the game, if you use a walkthrough, you aren't going to have a good time. A controller is recommended for this game as the PC controls seem pretty bad, but not entirely impossible to use, it's just that much more enjoyable on a controller.

Ravaged -
I wouldn't bother with this game, multiplayer seems to be dead, it was last time I tried it (a month or two ago). And seeing as it's a multiplayer only game, you'd be wasting your money.

Papers, Please -
This is a very interesting, dark and at times humorous game, I tried out the beta and the full game definitely seems like it's worth the money.

Shank -
I'd definitely recommend this game and its sequel if you haven't already gotten it. It's a good old side-scrolling beat-em-up with combos, unlocks and bosses. The audio and visuals are very good and the platforming parts of the game can be frustrating at times, but aren't too bad and add to the feeling of being the badass that Shank is. I'd definitely recommend a controller for this, I don't think you'd be able to experience the game the way it's meant to be experienced by using PC controls. The co-op is quite good too if you happen to have two controllers, and you should be able to get a copy relatively easily off SteamTrades.

  • Ravaged - Decent game but the multiplayer is fairly dead. Don't buy.
  • FEZ - Cute game, but wait to buy it in a humble bundle where you can chose to not give anything to the dev
  • Monaco - Really fun game in co-op, worth it if you have friends with the game
  • Call of Juarez Gunslinger - Really fun story mode, the guns in this game feel great
  • Papers, Please - Great game, can't really think what else to say
  • The Showdown Effect - Again a good game, but due to the buggy release the multiplayer is almost dead. Do not buy.

Why do people insist on hating Phil Fish? You shouldn't let your feelings about a game dev control how you feel about the game.

I didn't say it controlled how I thought about the game, just that he should wait for a humble bundle so he doesn't have to give him is money.

  • Rayman Legends - Awesome and fun in one. The co-op is crazy when you play with a friend. (I don't know if the new one will be as good as the first one tho.)
  • Resident Evil 6 - I can tell it bad from quite a few friends and played the demo on Xbox...
  • Call of Juarez Gunslinger - Buy it on sale cuz its really short, but its awesome! It is really better than the previous Call of Juarez.
  • GRID 2 - Quite nice game, the gameplay is better than the first one, the quality is really good, its not that easy so its a challenge. Get it when its -50% or more off.

Dead Island Riptide - Pretty fun game, if you are willing to deal with some bugs/glitches (haven't seen many myself) and have some friends willing to play.
Trials Evolution Gold Edition - I've played this a lot on the 360. Very fun, addicting, challenging and a good PC game too. Also has an in-game map editor and user created maps to download as well.
Retro City Rampage - A cool and funny parody game, many clever references. Driving's kinda challenging but the gameplay is fun. Pretty much GTA in the 80's.

Party of Sin - I got bored with it after the first couple of levels... I don't know it might get better but I just found it kind of clunky and slow for control/character responsiveness, at least for what I look for in a game.

Unepic - I've been playing this game for the past few days and I'm quite enjoying it, light parody/poking fun on D&D and rogue likes and an enjoyable experience. I good fun escape.

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters - played the beta for it and it was pretty fun, mmo-ish without having to have all of the annoyances of lots of people, depends on your cup of tea for it, I didn't have strong feelings one way or the other.

Final Fantasy VII - you're kidding right? Do you like RPGs? JRPGs? the game that many many people hold up as the standard for RPGs and story telling? If you haven't played it on PSX and like RPGs at all you should definitely get it.

Of Orcs and Men - was originally on my wishlist from watching the trailer but I removed it after watching some gameplay of it, I'd definitely watch a little it on youtube to make sure that the combat experience won't kill it for you like it did for me.

Anyways, that's my .02

Air Bucaneers is on a bundle right now, though it looks like a multiplayer game only, which means sooner or later it will have no one to play with. Link to the bundle: http://www.bundlestars.com/#title177tab

Wasteland Angel is on a $1 bundle: http://www.bundlestars.com/deals/wheels-of-steel-bundle/

Here's a bundle with Shattered Horizon: http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/bundle-seven/

Don't get FFVII on Steam, it's an awfull re-release of the old PC version, they didn't even bother to put the excelent soundtrack from the PS1 version, leaving us with crappy MIDIs. Also it seens to have a horrible always online DRM created by Scrap Enix.

Don't get Dead Island Riptide, the first game is much superior and you get it on Humble Bundle right now.

Don't buy RE6 unless it's 75% off, that game is not worth the full price, but Revelations seens ok.

I had lot's of fun with Hell Yeah! If you like crazy platformers that game is for you.

Sonic Generations is the best Sonic in over a decade, highly recommended, got it on a buggy Steam promotion with every Sonic game on Steam for less than $7, keep your eyes open for the Sonic bundle, it had bugged promotions twice already. Also if you like kart racers I recommend Sonic All Star Racing Transformed, it's currently the best kart racer in existence (I am not exagerating, that's the opinion of everyone who plays it), also got it with the bug.

I want Arkham Origins for the Azbat outfit alone!

Blades of Time is a crappy ripoff of Lara Croft and God of War, it is frequently on bundles.
