Just a heads-up...

Steam is giving away 500 XP for free, and you only need to complete 27 or 28 of the 29 community tasks for this badge

Check your badge progress at this link:

http://steamcommunity.com/my/badges/2

I jumped an extra Steam Level today doing this : )

I'm in the same boat.
Valve is coming off as pretty desperate for my phone number.
I just hope they don't get all clingy and weird if I give it to them.

still fair enough, 3 last remain is easy :"3 maybe phone code confirmation is a little hard :"3

No, you won't be getting any messages from them. No worries.

I'm not actually worried about Valve calling me. That actually is useful and helps increase account security.

What I am worried about is that they make no mention of how they might use your phone number in their privacy policy. Potentially, they are within legal rights to sell lists of customer phone numbers to other marketing corporations for profit, solicitation, and data mining.

Just a heads up, you can easily remove your phone number afterwards, in case you wanted to just give it to them for the badge progress.

Same here but still easy to get. Just cant get the last one for 2 way authentication because I dont have a smart phone. Still gained a level though, thanks for the heads up :)

You don't need a smartphone for 2 way authentication. You can use Winauth. It's open-source and easy to use. I've had my battle.net, guild wars 2, wildstar, steam on it and been using it for almost 5 years.

I wish it would work for me. I logged in, put in the code from my email, but then it asks for a second code, but It only ever sends me one, and that code won't work the second time, idk what I'm doing wrong.

The step for discovery queue isn't working?

You need to go through your entire queue (I think it's 12 games). You'll get it when you empty the queue.

What if I already voted for every single game in that queue? :(

You have to complete the queue. At the end of the queue, after you hit the last game there is a link for "Complete the queue"

Oops, my mistake. But, why do you need a cell phone? It seems optional:

It says "complete one more Steam Community tasks to earn the Level 3 badge." So I just need to do the emoticon thingy. The cell phone thing is optional.

Far from, don't have one since they pretty much require a subscription package and I don't use my phone nearly enough to even remotely justify that.

It sends you an SMS message to your smart phone that you have to type in for validation. People without a smartphone cannot receive the badge.

You need to be able to receive and read text messages.

Thank you, I was curious. Because here all mention that you need a smartphone and so on...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I had a Nokia 100 mobile phone (as simple as you can get) until this Tuesday, and I had the SMS validation set up without any problems.

The irony is that I still cannot use the Guard app with my smartphone now, because it's a Lumia. And the funny thing is that I kinda want to have the smartphone app as a security layer.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why did you change Nokia 100 for Lumia you going back this way. :) Now seriously, this app is not as necessary or helpful as you might think. Just use a mobile version of the site and you will have almost the same experience. Concerning security, just continue to use a two-step function and that's it.
Otherwise, it is characteristic of humans, we always want more powerful thing that we do not have. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My mother's even older Nokia is dying, so I give it to her. Plus I needed a dual-SIM phone for months now, because I don't like carrying around a work phone and personal one (especially since I still use belt pouches for phones, so only one phone on my person and one tucked away in the backpack). Since I needed a smartphone for emails (and I like the map feature), iPhone was out of the picture, got burned twice by Android/Galaxy, and not enough money to buy a BlackBerry, it was only Lumia.
Plus I like MicroSoft. I have my online account set up there and I'm very pleased with their service. More than with Yahoo or Google.
And, honestly, I like the phone. Actually using it as a phone is tedious (need to go through four menus to press a call button), but it is fast and responsive, has an incredibly good speaker (both normal and loudspeaker), and the font-enlargement for messages produces nice readability.

In our family is the same thing - for me and my brother the new phones, and old go to our parents.
Everyone has their preferences, so it's nice to have variety. Therefore, what I said was a joke.
Otherwise I already more than 4 years use Galaxy S2 and totally work for me - no problems at all. But of course I usе CM and and several other things to improve my security and anonymity. :)

Yeah I guess I will have to go without the xp. Shame.

You only need a smartphone for the one that requires you to use the mobile app. The other task just involves giving them your number so they can send you a text message.

Not enough smart phones linked to Valvenet and 50 billion other things for Lord Gaben's global domination plans. Random Valve employee "Let's try what we always do, give them a new shiny badge that is pointless." Valvenet takes many steps closer to Lord GabeN's goal..... What a world... ;-)

Why wouldn't it be activated? I had a problem that it didn't show the activation field code and I googled and googled and found out just remove the space where your country code is written so ex. +999 85 Remove the space between to make +99985

Does anybody else have trouble watching a broadcast? I tried a few from the broadcasts section in the community hub but all I see is those loading icons (three bars). I have been able to watch friends before and my connection is fine.

Edit: it worked after restarting Steam a few times so I'll just blame Valve.
